The local swimming pool. Swimming pools are a big part of Icelandic culture. We love to go hang out and chat in the hot tubs and relax in the steam baths and sauna. Take your own swimsuits and bath towels and be prepared to shower before and after in a shared locker room. This one is my personal favorite due to the circular steam room and variety of temperatures in the hot tubs. After you can grab a burger at Hagavagninn, a coffee at Kaffihús vesturbæjar, get one of the best cinnamon buns in town at Brauð og co. or go to Ísbúð Vesturbæjar for an ice cream. Icelanders are also crazy for their ice cream and the swimming pool / ice cream combo is popular all year round!

I nice short hike that takes about an hour one way. It's our beloved Mount Esja that is always visible from the city. It's a short drive from the city and an easy hike.

Take a dip in the artic sea and warm up again in the hot tub at Nauthólsvík beach. There are a couple restaurants around as well.
