It is worthy visiting the 11th-century Bled Castle, which houses a museum, chapel and printing press. Atop a small island in the lake's center is the Pilgrimage Church. Visitors can be ferried to Pilgrimage Church in covered wooden rowboats called pletnas. A walking path encircles the lake, passing a swimming area and trailheads for forested hiking paths. Bled is known for kremna rezina, a layered vanilla cream cake that's served around town. Just outside the downtown area is Vintgar gorge, where wooden walkways crisscross rapids and pools. The town is also a gateway to nearby Triglav National Park.

Slovenia's capital and largest city. It was the European Commission's Green Capital of Europe in 2016. It's known for its university population and green spaces, beautiful bridges and buildings and the Tivoli Park. The curving Ljubljanica River, lined in outdoor cafes, divides the city's old town from its commercial hub. Ljubljana has many museums, including the National Museum of Slovenia, displaying historic exhibitions, and the Museum of Modern Art, home to 20th-century Slovene paintings and sculptures. The hilltop Ljubljana Castle, a medieval fortress, is connected to old town by a funicular. In summer, cafes set up terrace seating along the river; it almost feels like a nightly street party.
