Sightseeing

A visit to Sioux Falls wouldn’t be complete without a trip to our city’s namesake...the Falls! The falls are gorgeous during from spring to fall, with the trademark pink Sioux quartzite contrasting with the lush green grass. You can walk the paths or jump around on the rocks and walk right up to the falls. In the summer, Shakespeare in the park is a fun treat. And we are proud of our new music venue, Levitt at the Falls, with lots of free concerts in the warmer months. If you want a treat, Falls Overlook Cafe is ready with ice cream!

The Great Plains Zoo is a fantastic place to take the family. More than 1000 animals call it “home.” There are several attractions, activities and shows...and the added museum makes for a unique educational experience with the collection of mounted animals.

Every year artists from around the world display their sculptures in downtown Sioux Falls. The city selects one sculpture by popular vote that is kept and displayed permanently in the city. In 2019, we added the Arc of Dreams, a dramatic and massive steel sculpture by South Dakota native Dale Lamphere (who created the beautiful Dignity statue in Chamberlain, overlooking the Missouri River). Arc of Dreams spans the Big Sioux River and is lit up at night.

Food scene

Grille 26 is a neighborhood restaurant with a bar. It’s a great place to meet for lunch or unwind with friends at the end of a long day. This is American food at its best. Friendly and casual, yet with a hint of fine dining. The menu changes seasonally, and has unique twists on classic fair, such as pasta, burgers, salad and pizza. No doubt everyone will find something they like! Kevin’s Tip: Watch for Happy Hour specials in the bar area at certain times. Sometimes you can get a good sized wood-fired pizza for half price (around $5)! https://www.grille26.com/

If you like Indian cuisine, Shahi Palace is the place to get it. Whether you go for the lunch buffet, or order off the menu at dinner, the food is always fresh and delicious. A lot of care and excellence goes into preparing the food, and the wait staff are always very friendly and attentive.

This is one of our best kept secrets! Here you’ll find the most elegant European style desserts by World Champion Pastry Chef Chris Hanmer. Chef Hanmer was executive pastry chef for Ritz-Carlton and won Top Chef of Bravo’s Top Chef: Just Desserts (Season 2). Tip: Be sure to try the melt-in-your-mouth macaroons. They also make a great gift.

Coffee

If you like great coffee, look no further than Coffea. Arguably the best coffee in the state, Coffea serves up amazing roasts and creates homemade syrups for their lattes. Barista’s compete against others in regional competitions. There are three locations in town: Louise Ave (the flagship), downtown on Phillips Ave., and on the east side of town. Tip: Ask for a free espresso on Free Espresso Fridays!

Activities

If you’re looking for some fun, make your way to Thunder Road. The highlight is certainly the racing track, but you’ll find lots of other options for a good time as well: slick track, mini golf, trampoline bungees and more. Kevin’s Tip: We like the Tilt-a-Whirl, but it’s not for the faint of heart...or stomach! :-)

The Midco Aquatic Center is about a mile from our place. There are swimming options for every age, including kiddie pools, walking pool, outdoor spray park and an Olympic sized pool. The facility is run by our top-rated Park and Rec department. The Aquatic Center is located in Spellerberg Park, which has many activities in and of itself (like a great sledding hill in winter).
