My favorite food places within walking distance

SE Portland is just busting out with new restaurants, cocktail bars, coffee shops, pizza joints, and international cuisine, most within walking distance or a short hop by bike, electric scooter, bus or car. Experience the joy of being in the middle of Foodie Central!!
One of my favorite eateries. Something for everyone, ranging from their great vegan menu to homemade sausage. The owners and staff are super friendly. As an extra bonus, you can shop in the adjacent retail space while you are waiting for your food and pick up exotic indoor garden plants, some record albums for your turntable, and lots of cool vintage goods and jewelry from local crafts people.

A great neighborhood grocery with organic produce, good vegan food options, locally sourced meats and cheeses, snacks, and an excellent beer and wine collection. They also stock a few ordinary grocery items like pet food and basic items for the kitchen and bathroom. Keep an eye on their calendar as they often host wine tastings! There is a children's play place in the front, and they also serve excellent coffee. Everything a family neighborhood grocer should be!

Great coffee, pastries, soups and sandwiches. They also just got a liquor license, so now you can have a little nudge in your beverage, or enjoy a nice beer or wine to go with your soup and sandwich.

Best bagels in town, hands down. Whether you just want a bagel with one of their many flavors of cream cheese (all natural ingredients), or a bagel sandwich, or if you are bagel & lox fan, they have it all. The walls are always festooned with fun & funky artwork curated by a local gallery down the street, the cash and carry art is reasonably priced, you might accidentally end up taking new art home to go with your breakfast bagel sandwich and coffee...

Portland Mercado has a variety of great food carts showcasing traditional foods from Latin America, South America, Mexico, Cuba and Jamaica. Food is great and reasonably priced. Inside Mercado is a grocery store, a bar, a butcher/meat vendor, deserts, and extra seating. Often there are local bands playing spirited music, and cultural events. Part roadside attraction, part gift shop, the Peculiarium and Museum has an amazing collection of odd exhibits, art, books, and gifts. If you like strange and creepy, this place is for you! Part of what makes Portland, well, Portland, is the populace's embrace of tattoos, gauged ears, and body jewelry. Adorn is a favorite spot for high quality body jewelry, and some of the best piercers around. Want to put some bling in that? Adorn is your place.

A wood fired stove for amazing pizza, a great wine list and accomplished cocktails, and regional Italian cuisine headed by Chef Marco Frattoroli. The 60 foot bar wraps around an open kitchen, so if you can't get a booth or table, you can still have a great meal while watching the magic happen. This new location for Marco is both classy and welcoming like a classic neighborhood restaurant. We do recommend reservations as they tend to get busy. I could spend a whole day at OMSI, easy. Between the Exhibits, the Planetarium and IMAX theater, the submarine tours, and the excellent waterfront location and café, this is one of my favorite stops in Portland. The view from the East Bank across the river to Portland downtown is one of the best, and it is fun to walk the East Bank Riverwalk. You can make a nice riverfront loop by crossing one of the bridges, going down the West Bank waterfront, then coming back across a different bridge to rejoin the East Bank Riverwalk. There are also the Hawthorne docks where you can get down to the river. OMSI is great for grownups and kids alike. Take a look at their listings for special events, like the Maker's Faire, and adult only "after dark" evening programs where you get to mix science and some of your favorite adult beverages often catered by local craft brewers, vintners and distilleries. Seeing a movie in the IMAX theater is an amazing experience. Great in summer or on those long rainy winter days!
