Neighborhoods

Yonge and Eglinton, or, as locals call it, 'Young and Eligible' is a neighbourhood where you will see a lot of young people, both singles, couples and families with small children. Most people here are those with medium to high level of income. This neighbourhood is very safe - you can safely walk along Yonge Street in the middle of the night, alone, even if you are a female. There are a lot of new condominium buildings being constructed in this area, so much so that one traveller commented that it reminded them of Dubai. Driving is a challenge here because of the construction of the LRT line (Light Rail Transit). Main grocery stores are open until 11pm (Loblaws) or 12am midnight (Metro). There is a 24 hour grocery store (Metro) at the intersection of Eglinton and Bayview. As everywhere in Ontario, alcohol can be served in local bars until 2am. There are more than a dozen of bars in the area. However, there are only two restaurants that stay open 24 hours - McDonald's and A&W (burgers, fast food). There is also a 24 hour Shoppers Drug Mart where you can buy food. If you feel like watching a movie, Cineplex, the local movie theater, is located inside Yonge Eglinton Centre mall (last show is around 10pm). This neighbourhood has countless restaurants with cuisine from all over the world. Grazie Ristorante is hugely popular which means you might have to wait to get a table. La Vecchia Ristorante (also Italian) is close second. There are also Thai, Japanese, Mexican, Vietnamese, Mediterranean and many others - you want it, Yonge and Eglinton probably has it!
