The snapshot beneath the cypress arch framing Zarcero Park becomes a must-have in the family album. Selfies in front of the majestic San Rafael Arcángel Church are the obligatory delight to share on social media. A day's getaway to this charming canton becomes an essential memory for every family. Just an hour and a half away from San José lies Zarcero, formerly known as Alfaro Ruiz. Here, the local soda shops offer the most exquisite breakfasts: freshly-made tortillas, gallo pinto, natilla, and, of course, the delicious local cheese. Then, strolling among the trees, admiring their shapes, immersing oneself in the scents of the pines, acquiring crafts, and feeling the harmony between the cool breeze and the warm sun rays. This is a place destined for enjoyment and spiritual renewal. All of this makes Zarcero an undisputedly important tourist destination in the country. Located in the hills north of San Ramón, it stands as a mandatory stop for those traveling to La Fortuna de San Carlos or the majestic Arenal Volcano. It is not uncommon to find people from different nationalities in the park, enjoying the picturesque surroundings. The topiaries, characterized by shrubs sculpted into artistic shapes, are one of the canton's greatest attractions and have gained recognition nationally and internationally. These works, sculpted on pine and cypress trees, are creations of Evangelista Blanco Brenes, a 75-year-old artisan. Since 1964, the municipality of the canton has commissioned him to care for the green areas of the park. His inspiration led him to sculpt the trees, giving them surprising shapes. Among the most prominent figures are an avenue lined with cypress arches leading to the church, as well as figures of indigenous faces, elephants, birds, dancers, and even an astonishing dinosaur. For his contribution to this green oasis, Evangelista Blanco received the prestigious National Popular Culture Award in 2013. Zarcero is not just a destination; it's an experience waiting to unfold. It's a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the beauty of nature and the warmth of the community. Whether you're seeking relaxation, breathtaking mountain views, or simply a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Zarcero has it all. So, if you're yearning to unwind amidst the clouds and mountains, in a refreshing climate that soothes the soul, then Zarcero is undoubtedly a must-visit destination to include in your travel itinerary. Let the tranquility of Zarcero embrace you as you embark on an unforgettable journey of serenity and discovery. Welcome to Zarcero, where every moment is an invitation to find peace and joy in the embrace of nature's splendor.

Uber is the cheapest way to get around.

The place is located in a very quick access area, where you can get to the east of the city (Barrio Escalante) or west (Escazu / Santa Ana) in just 10 to 15 minutes. There is also a boulevard just 3 blocks away from the Apt where you can find public buses or taxi caps (Red ones, which I don't recommend) and Also is the path where the local train goes from west to east.
