Carno is the most central point in Wales (according to wikipedia at least!) which means we are ideally situated for a base to explore the best of what Mid Wales has to offer. The village itself has two pubs, a well stocked spar and a wealth of public footpaths to get lost on.

Market towns for browsing

Market day is Tuesday in Newtown, so parking on the main street isn't recommended. With a few independent shops and some great cafe's and a delicatessen it's a great spot to pick up some fresh cakes, a bottle of wine and a little treat for yourself before heading back to that hot tub!

Sightseeing

Out of the way and a little bit special, Castell Y Bere is a lovely castle ruins in what many would consider the middle of no where, don't tell everyone about it though, it's better if it stays between us.

Crack out the walking boots and head on up the valley to Cadair Idris for a brisk walk up a very beautiful mountain. A mountain of myth and legend and one of Mid Wales' best kept secrets as it's far quieter than the hubbub of North Wales' Eryri or the Beacons further south. Not to mention there are two pubs within a few miles of the base of the mountain for a pub lunch after a few hours hike!
