Neighbourhoods
Morpeth is a quaint little market town on the doorstep to the Northumberland coastline route via car or bus. Its been voted as one of the best places to raise a family. Its not only safe and friendly it's steeped in history and has its original clock tower which is still ring today. As for amenities there are plenty with Rutherfords department store at its heart. Sanderson Arcade offers further shopping and you can buy pretty much everything you'd need here.
As for eating and drinking you are spoilt for choice with every taste catered for such as Italian "Lollo Rosso", Chinese takeaway at Fortune Cookie, Fish and chips at Carlos and lots of coffee shops with delicious cakes, my two favourites been The Chantry and Tres Amis. Transport is good with a local bus and train station allowing you to be car free and still see a lot of the beautiful region of Northumberland.

The town of Alnwick also has a playhouse and shopping opportunities, my favourite is Renaissance selling pre loved clothes. The best recommended cafe in Alnwick is the Origami Cafe run by Judy she's a whizz with cakes and makes them all herself. She's known for her raspberry Rose cake and orange blossom and pistachio cake along with the millions of crazy milkshakes to choose from but the Nutella hot choc is my fav. Treat yourself and you won't want to leave once you've met Judy.

A 20 minute drive from Morpeth takes you to wonderful Alnwick the home of Alnwick Castle and Gardens (Harry Potter was filmed here). Parking just outside the village then a short walk down to the centre where you will smell Robsons smoked kippers which have been smoked there for decades and are world famous. The scene you will see from the harbour will take your breath away... Dunstanburgh Castle standing approx a 1.5 mile walk away. Its a derelict castle but reasonably preserved. The walk is on the flat but can be muddy. It's a favourite walk and you pass sheep, coastline that is wild and untamed. You might be lucky to see migrating geese or watch the sheep walk down to the sea!
After your walk to and from the castle you can call in the Jolly Fisherman pub for delicious crab sarnies and chips like your Mum used to make. Or the Shoreline Cafe for heart warming soup or a sandwich. There's an art gallery too for a browse.
If you want to walk further there are many I can recommend just ask.

You can drive the route stopping at each coastal village or town by following the brown tourist road signs. From Morpeth I recommend stopping at Alnmouth, Amble, Warkworth, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Craster, Howick, Embelton, Dunstanburgh, Low Newton by the Sea, Boulmer and Dunstan Steads. Its a cosmopolitan city that has culture galore in the shape of historic buildings and monuments e.g Grey Street is a must as well as the Quayside. Visit art galleries and museums e.g The Baltic (modern art on the quayside for amazing views too) or The Great North Museum for some Roman history lessons and a chance to try the planetarium. It has a great food scene too with many choices to suit every pallet, our favourites are Cafe 21, Brown's, Cote Brasserie, The Botanist and Pani's. There is also China Town where there are multiple eateries with the Palace Garden highly rated.
Of course Newcastle is renowned for its vibrant nightlife multitude of clubs and bars on the Quayside and neighbouring suburb of Jesmond.
Not forgetting the wealth of shops from high end designers to high Street favourites. Check out Eldon Square, Northumberland streetand the Monument area.
