Delicious Japanese food, with a twist - noodle bowls, curry, dumplings, bao buns, ramen, and great cocktails! Really cool, funky decor and run by a gorgeous family who came to NZ after the Fukushima Earthquake, and have become loved locals. Usually open only for dinner, and it pays to book. You can text your order before 5.30pm for takeaways.

An iconic Raglan building, once known as The Tongue and Groove, which has hosted many late night misadventures. Now a lovely coffee shop/cafe, that is always popular. I love the Crunchy Chilli Rice (with chicken), and the Dark Cacao Hot Chocolate. Great chefs mean a changing menu, but always great. Usually close about 3pm, but often do evening nibbles and drinks in Summer on Fri/Sat nights 4-8.30ish.

Always a favourite - you'll see the line down the street in summer! Yummy fruit icecreams, rolled icecream, and a round the back you'll find burritos, wraps and salads.

Another great cafe option, often open on Public Holidays when others aren't (expect a surcharge on those days). The Green Bene is delish, and so are the rice paper rolls. Open for breakfast and lunch, usually until about 4pm.

Sightseeing

Within walking distance, great place to hire a kayak(Raglan Adventures) or go for a walk around the seashore on low tide. From here, head out to Simon Road and walk almost directly across the road into Cambrae Road. About half way down on the right is a walkway (before Cambrae goes uphill) which will bring you out at the waterfront of Lorenzen Bay. Walk along to the right in front of the houses (all public space), and explore! You can walk back the way you came, or head up the roadway, which will bring you out a little further up Simon Road, and then just turn right and you'll be back on your way home.

Good place to hire a surf board and take a surf lesson, or just take a walk on the beach. On low tide you can head to the left and walk around the rocks, often there are large starfish and lots of pools to explore.

Raglan has a great variety of shops perfect for gifts for friends...or for yourself!! Lots of lovely, quirky bits and pieces.

Jet stocks Fierce clothing - awesome very limited pieces that are made locally and are beautifully cut, and lots of fun. Tiny shop right next to The Shack on the main street.

Outdoor activities

Hiking, walks, cycling, kayaking...there is an abundance of outdoor activities available to visitors in Whaingaroa/Raglan.
If your feeling up for a walk, you can climb our local maunga, Mount Karioi. The climb will take you about 1 1/2 hours, leaving from the Ruapuke side, or 2 1/2 hours from Te Toto Gorge. We have done it with both our children when they were aged 8 and 10, and it is challenging but very doable. Please ensure you let someone know you are heading up, and take any safety measures, such as checking the weather forecast.

Music/Events

The Yot Club for many years was Raglan's only "nightclub". We are lucky enough to have lots of great acts come and play at "The Yottie". Check them out online to see who is coming, and when. Usually open Friday/Saturday nights, and Sunday Sessions (late afternoon DJ sessions into the evening) run through summer months. Fun Bus is available before 9:30pm, just ring the YOT Club after 8:30pm and they'll pick you up. Drop off also at the end of the night. On weekends, YOT Club uses registered security and have a one way door (out) from 12.30am

Tidal Pools

There are often gorgeous tidal pools (on low tide) between Ngarunui and the "kite beach", which are a beautiful place to take a walk, or a dip. While the ocean is often wild, the pools are often warm and peaceful. Access is via Riria Kereopa Drive, just past Rockit Kitchen, on the way out to the beaches. Park the car in the car park and walk to your left. Note: This is not a safe place to swim in the ocean due to the undertow - please use Ngarunui Beach, or swim in the harbour (Lorenzen or Cox Bay), or just stick with bathing in the pools.

The Infamous One Way Bridge!

While traffic going out to the beach legally has right of way, around town it's pretty well known that we all just show consideration to each other either way. So don't be surprised, or annoyed, if there's a long line of traffic on the other side and the guy in front of you stops, even though he could legally go. It's just the Raglan way, and it gives you some time to relax a little more into Raglan time!

Eke Rideshare

A new service to Raglan in late 2023 - download the app for information. From their FB page "We're thrilled to announce that EKE is now ready to hit the roads of Raglan, making your daily commute and weekend adventures smoother and more convenient than ever!" We haven't used it, but great to finally have a service like this in Raglan.
