Eldborg volcanic crater is a great place to visit on the way to or from my house. It is clearly visible from the highway and the best approached from Snorrastaðir, on it´s southern side. The walk to it is about 2,5 km and you can both walk around it or up to the top edge of the crater.

Eldborg Crater
Eldborg volcanic crater is a great place to visit on the way to or from my house. It is clearly visible from the highway and the best approached from Snorrastaðir, on it´s southern side. The walk to it is about 2,5 km and you can both walk around it or up to the top edge of the crater.

Snæfellsjökull is the most iconic feature on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Both a glacier and a volcano it rises up some 1446 m above sea level. In mid summer, when the roads are clear of snow and dry, you can drive quite close to it. If you want to go further please contact and hire the local guiding company's to go with you since the glacier is dangerous to cross.

My favorite walk lies straight from my house, down to the coastal cliffs and to the right towards Hellnar. Hellnar has a great coffee house down by the beach. Hotel Hellnar is also a good restaurant for lunch and dinner (Opening hours may vary between summer and winter season).

At Malarif you will find the Snæfellsjökull National Park Visitor Center. Currently there is a small exhibition up on the area and this is a good place to get maps and other information. The walk down to the lighthouse is nice, or even all the way over to Lóndrangar. Kids might have fun here because of the playgrounds. Opening hours may vary between summer and winter season.
