Best things to do at Night Bazzar

Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is a commercial wonderland of shops, hotels, restaurants and bars, and most visitors to Chiang Mai will find themselves here at least once – especially after 18:00 when all of the market stalls open for business. Although only a small area there is plenty to experience, and it’s fair to say the Night Bazaar is as hectic as Chiang Mai can become. Not surprisingly with a name like Night Bazaar, markets feature heavily in our list of attractions, but we have also sourced some interesting museums and galleries for a little culture and it wouldn’t be Chiang Mai without at least one Buddhist temple. We have covered the whole area of Chiang Mai Night Bazaar and have compiled the best of what to see and do to make your stay a memorable one. Enjoy!
1.)The Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai is probably the best place in all of Thailand to buy your commonplace souvenirs at the absolute best prices. Printed tees, candle holders, shawls and other everyday items are overflowing from the endless stalls in this area. There are actually several parts to the night bazaar, with indoor and outdoor sections on either side of Chang Klan Road, so our advice is to start from the intersection in front of Le Meridien Hotel and simply explore. Along the way there are snacks, drinks and ice creams to try, and many restaurants serving a wide range of regional cuisines are also in the area. Opening Hours: 18:00 - 24:00 Location: Around the intersection of Loi Kroh Street and Chang Klan Street

2.)Ton Lamyai Flower Market is a bustling trading area that is just north of Chiang Mai Night Bazaar on Chang Khan Road. Open 24 hours a day, visitors are advised to arrive in the early morning when the flower deliveries are being made and the place is alive with traders. Most stalls here are packed tightly together under tarpaulin but there are other open-air stalls that are less frantic. Photographers will love seeing all the exquisitely prepared bouquets, while those intending to buy some fresh flowers will find the prices extremely good value. Opening Hours: 7 days a week, 24 hours a day Location: Thanon Praisani, running alongside the river

3.)Wat Chang Kong is an atmospheric temple complex close to Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. It has a central temple building with the typical sloping roof and a gold-topped stupa within its grounds. Wat Chang Kong is easy to find on Loi Kroh Road at the intersection with Kampaengdin Road. Built by Chang Kong villagers who were immigrants to Chiang Mai in the early Rama Period, the temple now stands abandoned and is surrounded by shops and dwellings on three sides.

4.)Anusarn Market is a central feature to the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar: a complex of restaurants, massage shops, a central market area and some live music venues. Although most of the stalls here sell similar items to the rest of the night bazaar, it is possible to find some of the handmade items and handicrafts which are in abundance at the famous Chiang Mai weekend walking streets. The restaurants here range from large Chinese seafood diners to small bars offering pub grub and acoustic live bands covering of classic western hits. The vibe here is a little more relaxed and you can also pick up some good souvenirs at Anusarn Market

8.)Kalare Food Court is located deep into the Kalare Night Market on the ground floor. Food here is definitely based on popular Thai dishes that are prepared quickly and are seriously good value. This is probably the cheapest place to eat in the whole area with noodle soup costing around 50 to 60 baht and a curry and rice no more than 100 baht. Sit down at any of the metal tables to claim your seat and order from any of the vendors that takes your fancy. Chang Klan Road, Night Bazaar

Night life in Chiang Mai Night Bazaar

As evening falls on Chiang Mai, the Night Bazaar becomes a beacon for visitors and locals in this charming northern city. Some of the best bars and clubs are found in and around this area, as well as some of the most risqué, but owing to the diverse nature of the visitors there are plenty of options no matter what your personal taste. Chiang Mai Night Bazaar doesn’t get going until 17:30 so there are many night spots to enjoy late into the night. Chiang Mai Night Bazaar has been compiled for visitors who want all of the best information compiled in an easy to read and easy to navigate format. We have spent long nights exploring the area so you can go straight to the best nightlife venues the Night Bazaar has to offer.
Quite simply, the finest place to catch live music in Chiang Mai is at Boy Blues Bar. Six nights a week (closed on Sunday) this small, second storey live music joint pumps out a classic blues soundtrack played live by the oh-so talented ‘Boy’ and his regular roster of both Thai and foreign musicians. Located in the Kalare Night Bazaar, look for the stairs up to the bar in front of the food court (although you will hear it long before you see it). Mondays are officially Jam Night but if you can play a mean twelve bar blues then inform the bar and Boy is likely to ask you up on stage to show your stuff to the usually very eager audience. The low seating isn’t the most comfortable and the drinks list is limited, but with cheap beers straight from the fridge you’ll never go thirsty. Read More... Opening Hours: 20:00 - 01:00 Location: 2/f Kalare Night Bazaar (look for the food court and listen for the music)

Kao Kab Kang (meaning curry with rice) is an unassuming restaurant opposite the popular tourist attraction Art in Paradise on Chang Klan Road. It is a couple of kilometres south of the main Night Bazaar but the food is so highly recommended it is well worth the journey. The menu is dominated by Thai cuisine and they prepare it very well: try the Thai red curry with chicken and the beef in tamarind, prepared according to your required level of spice. Staff at Kao Kab Kang speak English and offer a noticeably warm and welcoming service. Families are welcome and they even serve rice in the shape of a teddy bear for the kids. The delightfully cute Japanese craze of hedgehog cafes has made its way over to Chiang Mai. And if you were wondering, Harinezumi means hedgehog in Japanese. The Harinezumi cafe has three menus available where you can buy food or drinks while you spend some time with the super-cute hedgehogs and guinea pigs. Menu’s start at 160 baht for a drink and 1 hour of hog time. When you walk into Harinezumi you’re greeted by welcoming staff who seat you at a table with a sunken in glass fish tank. They will then ‘pair’ you with a new hedgehog friend and a pair of gloves so you can handle the prickly fella. Chiang Mai is positively bursting with markets. You can go to the Sunday Walking Street for hand-made products and food, Kham Tiang Market for trees, the Flower Market next to Warorot for flowers. But where do you go when you are looking for a bargain? To the humble Flea Market of course! This market is not in the average traveller’s check list, but you’ll find some bargains there. Plus, it showcases the best of local colour and you will meet very few tourists. Formerly located next to Prince Royal College, the Chiang Mai Flea Market has been moved to Road Number 4307, 200 meters passing Chotana Police Station and not very far from CM International Convention Centre (to go there you can scan the QR code at the end of this article). It has also doubled in size. This is the market where vendors are happy and talkative, and you can easily find food, fruit juices and coffee. Whether you are looking for Buddha amulets, vintage accessories, and antique wood carvings or just enjoy rummaging through other people’s casts-off, here is the place to spend your Saturday morning, wandering around and practicing your bargaining skills! This market takes place every Saturday and Sunday, from 8 am to 12 am, but we were told that Saturday welcomes the most of vendors. With a colourful display of eclectic goods, the most interesting stands include old clocks, antiques gramophones, clothing, housewares, bikes and a lot of amulets. At the Chiang Mai Flea Market, you will definitely end up leaving with something. It just probably won’t be what you came for.
