Food Scene

Three Brothers Burgers does some of the best burgers in town right by the river next to cobbled King Street. It's often busy at a weekend evening but is well worth the effort. Cosy atmosphere, inside and outside seating, kind of on a boat on the river! Pair it with an aperitif at the Apple cider barge next door and pop to the Old Duke for live jazz afterwards.

Eat, swim, steam...so much to choose from. The food is exceptional and you can sit poolside and watch the swimmers splash by as you quaff a cold glass of wine and munch on some tapas. They have lots of swim and dine options; squeeze in a weekday visit for their £20 , 1pm - 4pm, swim deal and laze in the outside hot tub, bake in the steam room and leave feeling thoroughly refreshed.

A small intimate space where you are immersed in the music if they have some on. A relaxed, hipster, and hippy type space that is always interesting and great to pop into. Link it with the Galli and Canteen for an evening's pub crawl.

It's half an hour on the train to get to this gorgeous village. You can walk half an hour along the canal to Freshford and grab a pint by the water in the Cross Guns pub. Carry on and it's 10 miles to walk all the way to Bath if you fancy; pop into the Thermae Spa when you get there and jump on the train back. Wandering round BOA for the day with it's Saxon Church and Tithe Barn is also perfect!

This is a proper olde English pub in the countryside with stone flagon floors and a roaring fire all winter. It serves food 12 - 3pm only with a limited but great menu; the rare roast beef is fantastic as is the beef stew and cauliflower cheese. Pair it with a walk at Dolebury Warren - this is an Iron Age Hill Fort at the edge of the Mendips and is a one minute drive from the pub. Take in the views across to the Bristol Channel from the top of the Warren- a bit of a climb but worth the effort!

A swift 40 minute drive over into Wales brings you to the Forest of Dean and the beautiful Tintern Abbey; a ruined abbey by the River Wye. Have a look round the abbey, have a picnic by the Wye or pop into the pub for some food, do a great walk along the river bank and up through the forest.

If you have a car, this is do-able in a day if you set off very early. It is often deserted and is a large flat expanse of beach perfect for walking along. Worms Head has a tea room and walks along the cliff top. The Kings Arms in Llangenith is the best local there but always busy in the Summer.

This is an obvious one but here are the tips: head to Clifton village and grab some food for a picnic (The Mall Deli café does great salads and the best rare roast beef) , walk up to the Observatory side of the bridge (you might see the stone slide where kids love to play!). Eat your picnic overlooking the bridge and grab an icecream in the café afterwards for good measure!

There is lots of graffiti around Bristol but Upfest, the graffiti festival, is held in this area every year. There are lots of bars and restaurants here so book into one and take in the graffiti on the way. Tip: There is a huge piece on the Tobacco Factory wall by the entrance to Lidl - well worth seeing.

'Spectacular Victorian Gothic Revival house with gardens and parkland' so says the National Trust and I agree with them. One of my favourite places; wander round the house, explore the gardens, take a picnic and play croquet on the lawn. They have a large variety of events there from Summer music festivals, Spring falconry displays and Victorian soldier re-enactments, and Xmas carols in the chapel. Catch the bus from the central bus station or drive there in 20 minutes from my place. A great place if you have a free afternoon.
