One of the area’s best-kept secrets is Newells Paddock, which is located on the other side of Ballarat Road (100 metres), or a short walk along the river towards the city. It has more public bbq facilities, a basketball court and beautiful wetlands, home to many species of birds. Another great place for a picnic.

Play

We love to go for a run or walk along the kilometres of running and cycling, located in front of the house. Turn right and you head towards Footscray/Kensington and the city, through some of the west’s old industrial areas, now quickly undergoing gentrification. Turn left and you head away from the city, past the Footscray City Rowing Club and into more established parts of suburban Melbourne. If you are feeling ambitious, you can turn left and head all the way along the river to The Boathouse in Moonee Ponds for a coffee (it’s a 8.8 km return trip).

Beaches

This is the closest beach to the house (9.4 km). It’s here where the ferry leaves for Tasmania and is beautiful place to enjoy the sunset, perhaps sipping a wine at la baia bar cucina (16/123 Beaconsfield Parade Albert Park). Keeping heading east along the Beaconsfield Parade and you’ll soon reach St Kilda Beach, Melbourne’s most-famous beach.

This is only a 15-minute drive from the house (12 kilometres). The beach opposite Sadler Reserve is the best place for swimming, while the shopping strip opposite Commonwealth Reserve is the best place to grab an ice cream or meal, and boasts city views.
