A nice, large and modern restaurant with a magnificent view of the Bay of Durres and the Adriatic Sea. The menu is excellent and offers all common, traditional Albanian dishes, but mostly Mediterranean, Italian cuisine, which is very deliciously prepared. Horses can be visited and also mounted.

Very tastefully arranged restaurant. Generous wine list. Fantastic food. Meat, fish and seafood. When eating, you notice that there is a brigade at the stove in the kitchen, which cooks with heart and soul. I have rarely been so positively surprised by a restaurant.

Combining Asian cuisine with Albanian - there are fabulous fresh sushi, Asian noodle dishes, but also great salads, starters, fish and meat dishes. They have some meals on the menu which make the difference: Sushi, spring rolls, noodles... all to die for! The waiters are all professionals and extremely friendly.

Ancient meets modern... An excellent combination of ancient ruins and the modern design. Portiku is a top class restaurant & wine bar, in a splendid internal setting, with the old city walls clear to view within the restaurant. (You can even walk over the "glass floor" and view the ruins below.) The atmosphere is nice, cozy and refreshing. Large choice of international and albanian wines. And cooking... amazing techniques from italian classic recipes to french and nouvelle cousine. Staff is super friendly! This is a place not to miss while in Durres!

You should definitely visit the museum. It's small, but nicely decorated, and that's where you'll find the largest ancient glass jars you've ever seen. Here you will find statues, amphorae, coins, ceramics and architectural remains from prehistoric to late Byzantine times. Artifacts are well exhibited and labeled in Albanian and English.

Large, very well-preserved Roman amphitheater with Byzantine chapel with two well-preserved mosaics. Although the ancient site has not yet been fully excavated, it still impresses with its size and invites you to take a short walk. It is the only monument of this type in Albania. The amphitheater has an elliptical shape and is about 135 meters long at its longest point. The arena itself measures approximately 60 x 40 m. The patio seats would have accommodated no less than 15.000 spectators, about a third of the capacity of the Colosseum in Rome.

If old walls could speak, then they too would have a lot to tell... Great 600+ year old castle that is still in use. You rarely see something like this. Small, but very cute and extraordinary. You can have a coffee, wine or cocktail inside/rooftop and see how and what a fighter saw. Definitely worth seeing.

Sfinks - seen from the profile - resembles the Sphinx in Egypt. I suggest you go at twilight there. It has a breathtaking view and the sunsets are awesome.

Hidden treasure... The Byzantine Forum (Macellum) may not be the best preserved of Durrës' Roman remains, but it is still worth its time for its importance in the development of the city from antiquity to late antiquity. While only a few pillars remain, its somewhat dilapidated condition hides the fact that this open-air market has been the beating heart of the city of Dyrrachium (ancient name of Durrës) for many centuries.

The villa was built in the style of rationalism soon after the 1926 earthquake and served as a summer residence for King Zog and his family. In its pink and white coloring it is difficult to be overlooked. With the end of the monarchy in 1945, ownership passed to the state and it became a government building during the communist rule, to be willfully destroyed during the 1997 unrest in Albania. Nowadays it is not open to the public. However, if you enjoy a good walk, you can see the beautiful outside of the building, enjoy a good sunset while enjoying the cool sea air and the smell of pine trees that line the hill. The view is spectacular.
