Kilpatrick Beach can be found next to Kilmichael Strand in Castletown, County Wexford. It is an extensive beach, known for its very rare sea shells and unusual sea stones and pebbles.

Kilpatrick Beach can be found next to Kilmichael Strand in Castletown, County Wexford. It is an extensive beach, known for its very rare sea shells and unusual sea stones and pebbles.
The first thing that catches the eye at Kilmichael Point is the very generously dimensioned former coast guard building. But then the beautiful scenery comes to attention. Below the cliffs lies a secluded sandy beach and on a rock stands a lonely fragment of a ruin. Walking along the coast, you pass abandoned farm buildings and an old guard house, which has been coloured with graffiti. What really impresses is the tranquility that prevails in this secluded spot.
Kilmichael Point
The first thing that catches the eye at Kilmichael Point is the very generously dimensioned former coast guard building. But then the beautiful scenery comes to attention. Below the cliffs lies a secluded sandy beach and on a rock stands a lonely fragment of a ruin. Walking along the coast, you pass abandoned farm buildings and an old guard house, which has been coloured with graffiti. What really impresses is the tranquility that prevails in this secluded spot.
Clones Strand is an approximately two mile stretch of sand and shingle south of Kilmichael point, close to the village of Castletown. Take the old N.11 from Arklow towards Inch. Pass the Glanbia works drive under the railway line, and about a quarter of a mile further on is the left turn towards Castletown. Follow the road to the Golden Anchor Pub. There are three main access points to Clones Strand, but only two are of interest. The first is immediately north of the Pub, take a right and follow the lane down to the beach. To access the second drive south towards Tara Hill take the first left after crossing the river. This lane runs down to the Kilgorman section of the strand.
Streams run out at both these access points obviously creating a point of interest for fish. There is a light lateral run off Clones Strand, so grip leads are advisable. The beach gives access to reasonably deep water and fishes best from dusk into darkness. Recent catches include Dogfish (two at a time), Flounder, and small Dabs.
This beach had a great reputation for winter Codling in days gone by. Sadly other than an odd fish they appear to be a thing of the past. However spring 2010 saw good numbers of small Codling in the 30cm bracket landed, especially during competitions, so fingers crossed. On the other hand Bass, and Smooth Hound during the summer and autumn are worth targeting. There is also the possibility still of encountering a Ray on calm summer nights, as this beach was once famous for them.

Cahore is a gorgeous little harbour with lovely views north towards Tara Hill and Arklow. If walking to Cahore, there are steps up to the cliff at Newtown Beach with a simple path to walk to the top of the cliff at Cahore. The Pier in Cahore is a renowned place for families to fish for crabs.
The sea off Cahore has been the scene of many shipwrecks with the most famous being The Irrawaddy in 1856. The Irrawaddy cargo ship was bound from Glasgow to Rangoon in Burma before it struck the Blackwater Bank. The Captain and 13 crew were saved but four sailors were lost at sea.

Old Bawn Beach

The castle was built in the 13th century, possibly by William, Earl Marshall. Originally, the castle formed a square, with large corner towers. Only half of the castle now remains. The most complete tower contains a fine circular chapel, with carved ornament. The tower also has several original fireplaces and a vaulted basement. Archaeological excavations revealed a rock- cut ditch outside the castle walls.
Ferns Castle is one of a number of historic sites in Ferns. Others include St. Mary's, a 12th century Augustinian Priory; the remains of a 13th century cathedral, part of which is incorporated into the present Church of Ireland Church; St. Peter's, a small nave and chancel church; and some High Crosses and parts of crosses, which stand in the cathedral grounds.

When it came to choosing a name Kia Ora Mini Farm felt right and we hope that you feel very welcome on your visit. In the last number of years the day to day running of the farm has been taken over by Padraig O’Donohoe, or Podge as he is affectionately known to all, with the help of his wife Evelyn who deals with the admin, accounts and marketing.
We have no association with the Kia Ora Drink and are not sponsored by them or involved with the brand in any way.
We are a hands on open farm where children get to interact with, hold and feed animals of the usual farmyard variety and some more exotic such as llamas, emus, alpacas, pot bellied pigs, chinchillas, parrots, Scottish highland, etc.
Our farm is a safe place for children to roam and learn about the animals and for adults to relax. We have an onsite coffee shop with mouth watering home-baking but picnics are also welcome. Even in our coffee shop and we have ample outdoor seating for those fine summer days.
The outdoor area covers many acres and is an ideal location for a family picnic and to unwind under the summer sun. There are so many things to do and our helpful staff are always on hand to help you get the most out of your visit and show you all the facilities.
Our farm is fully wheelchair accessible, has cement paths, toilets, baby changing facilities and so many things to do such as giant buzz-off, under 4 play area, milking cow shed and small animals, pig sty, Go kart track, bird pens, fire engine, basketball, party shed, maze, real diggers, large animals, secure pond, football pitch, basketball hoop, fire engine ride. We offer free car parking in our large car park. Some of our facilities include sandpits, a football pitch, a rough rider track and we have a convoy of ride on tractors.
In the past we have been delighted to be able to rescue and rehome many unwanted animals, providing we have had the proper space of course.

Our farm is a safe place for children to roam and learn about the animals and for adults to relax. We have an onsite coffee shop with mouth watering home-baking but picnics are also welcome. Even in our coffee shop and we have ample outdoor seating for those fine summer days.
The outdoor area covers many acres and is an ideal location for a family picnic and to unwind under the summer sun. There are so many things to do and our helpful staff are always on hand to help you get the most out of your visit and show you all the facilities.
Our farm is fully wheelchair accessible, has cement paths, toilets, baby changing facilities and so many things to do such as giant buzz-off, under 4 play area, milking cow shed and small animals, pig sty, Go kart track, bird pens, fire engine, basketball, party shed, maze, real diggers, large animals, secure pond, football pitch, basketball hoop, fire engine ride. We offer free car parking in our large car park. Some of our facilities include sandpits, a football pitch, a rough rider track and we have a convoy of ride on tractors.
In the past we have been delighted to be able to rescue and rehome many unwanted animals, providing we have had the proper space of course.
