From our house you can walk to Pioneer Park in approximately 10 minutes. Here, you can find a sandy beach with a dedicated swim area, a kids park, tennis courts, a basketball court, picnic tables, a communal BBQ, public fire pits a boat launch and more. This park/beach is great because it’s not a well known, so it’s rarely overcrowded! There an unofficial area by the boat launch where locals let their dogs off leash to run and play in the water and as far as I’ve heard, it’s never been an issue and we do it all the time! FYI: We have an assortment of floaties and beach toys that you can bring along and use free of charge. Just don’t forget your sunscreen!

Come jump off the Kettle Valley Railroad bridge that crosses into Okanagan Falls. If your daring, you can use one of the small platforms specifically constructed to allow people to jump off and plunge into the cool Skaha Lake below! It’s high, but not too high, and there is a ladder that you can use to climb back up to the bridge.

Tickleberries is a famous ice cream shop in OK falls that has tasty ice cream for humans to indulge in and a special ice cream for dogs!! They have a quirky gift shop with fun stuff in it as well. Be warned that the small size is huge! I usually go for the senior sized cone and it is still very large! Note: Tickleberries has now opened a second location right on Main Street in downtown Penticton.

Although this place is about an hour from the suite, (near the Kelowna Airport), it is well worth the drive for kids and animal lovers! Here, you can enter enclosed areas where kangaroos, wallaroos, capybaras, emus and many other exotic wildlife roam free. Staff give you pellets to feed the kangaroos and if you are there at the right time, you can hold a baby roo in a makeshift pouch!

Skaha Lake Off-Leash Dog Park is a fully-fenced enclosure with several small beaches / water access for your dog to swim. Signage states that it is not a maintained park but it does have garbage cans and a couple of picnic tables. Make sure to be aware of poison ivy as signs say it is around. This park is located on the east side of Skaha lake on Lakeside Road, about 300 meters south of the intersection at Smythe Drive. Linden Gardens is walking distance from the suite and is a beautiful outdoor garden that changes with the season and is popular for leisurely walks and weddings. It was free to enter last year, but I haven’t heard if it will be again this year.... I will update this when I find out. When there is an entry fee, it isn’t much and it’s dog friendly of course! You can also find Frog City Cafe here which is local coffee shop that serves up fresh soups, sandwiches, pastries and hot drinks for you to enjoy on their garden patio. There is no entry fee to relax here.

This brewery is new in town and is making a splash! It’s big and fun and has both a street level and roof top patio. Slackwater is family friendly. In addition to their regular flights of beer, they also offer a special “Little Slackers Juice Flight” so your kiddos can join in on the tasting fun with their very own sampling platter of fruit juice! Dogs are welcome to hang out with their families on the downstairs patio and they have a great chance of getting pets from people walking by on the street! The patio is westward facing and gets a ton of sunlight throughout the day so it’s great for working on that tan, and they are currently adding string lights and heaters for when the sun goes down.

This place has amazing authentic Italian pizza! It’s one of our favorite joints and we go there regularly. You won’t get a greasy Pizza Hut pizza here.... think big, neapolitan style pizzas made with quality ingredients! This place is owned and run by a super friendly Italian family. Dad runs the pizza oven, mom’s in the kitchen making up fresh pastas and salads, and the kids do most of the serving. It’s a fabulous spot and in our opinion, the best pizza in town! My favorite is the Diavolo Pizza, add arugula!

Doug’s Homestead is a famous local butcher that used to be located in Hedley. Just last year, they moved their shop and are now located right down the road from us in Kaleden! Here they serve up a variety of fresh meats, home made sausage, jerkys, pepperoni and more. Almost every morning this place has a lineup of people waiting to get their hands on their tasty treats as they regularly sell out of their top products. To make things fun, Doug’s often has a “Guess the price” game on the go..... before you pay, they ask you to guess the total price of your purchase and if you get it correct, you win all the goodies in your basket!

This little side of the road taco shack is amazing. Run by authentic Mexicans, it never fails to impress! Bench 1775 in Naramata is one of my favourite spots for an afternoon picnic. The view from the outdoor patio is phenomenal, especially on a nice day, and if you sit on the lower deck, you are allowed to bring your own picnic to go along with a bottle of wine purchased from their tasting room. Wines range from about $20 and up so it's a pretty great deal considering most wineries end up costing you a pretty penny when dining in. I usually bring along a little cooler with some cheese, olives, grapes and bread maybe a roasted chicken from the deli etc and it is perfect!! On weekends, they often have live music which is a nice touch. Last time I was there, they were serving up flat bread style pizza on their upper deck. UPDATE: As of now, Bench 1775 has a small restaurant so you are only allowed to bring your own picnic from Monday -Thursday. Make sure to call ahead to see if picnicking is a still a go as they are sometimes closed for private events.

Dirty Laundry in Summerland is a fun one. The venue use to be an old brothel that posed as a laundry mat to hide what was really going on, hence the name. They have kitschy decor and bras etc hung all around. It’s a fun atmosphere and I believe you can create your own picnic basket with stuff from their shop to enjoy on their patio. They don’t have any lake view but you can see the kettle valley train below when it comes by. They also make their own beer which is a nice if you want to switch it up from wine.
