Food Scene

The Old Bakery & Wild Plum Cafe reopened as a Sourdough Bakery and Cafe on April 2012, following its closure in 1978. With the original wood-fired oven and historic home now recommissioned as a bakery/cafe, it offers an opportunity for visitors to connect with former times. Surrounded by tin pressed walls, and the smells of slow cooked bread and food, visitors can enjoy a leisurely stop. Tour appointments offer an experience of how the old wood-fired bakehouse works. Art and produce from the region are also on display.

Just 20km west of Hamilton, lie two exceptional waterfalls, Nigretta and Wannon Falls. The Wannon Falls, created by lava flow that surged upstream to the Wannon River, feature a spectacular hardened basalt lava over which water cascades into a deep plunge pool below. Further downstream, rapids wind their way around large blocks of basalt, dislodged over time down the embankments of the narrow valley. A cantilevered viewing platform at the Wannon Falls offer spectacular views and a rotunda features interpretative signage for visitors, covering geology, flora and fauna, Koori history and details of colonial artists who painted in the area. Nigretta Falls has excellent viewing areas, river walks, barbeque facilities with redgum picnic tables, toilets, fishing areas and a jarrah timber stairway leading to the base of the falls for the more adventurous walker.

Arts & Culture

Brambuk is about bringing life to the history and culture of the Jardwadjali and Djab Wurrung and aboriginal communities of south-western Victoria. Ownership of Brambuk is shared between five Aboriginal communities with historic links to the Gariwerd-Grampians ranges and the surrounding plains. Since their dispossession. Aboriginal people have moved trough two phases - resistance and persistence - and have now entered a third phase, renewal. Brambuk stands as a symbol and affirmation of that process of renewal. We intend to provide visitors with the very best of park and cultural information, to make your stay in the Grampians a satisfying and memorable experience.

Located in the Grampians National Park are several Aboriginal art sites. This one is the Billimina Shelter, located in the western side of the ranges. This particular site was a major living site, many artefacts and food remains were found and old fireplaces are buried here. Materials were also brought here to repair tools, one of the most favoured being volcanic glass - excellent for making spear points and barbs.
