City/town information

The boardwalk in Christiansted is very popular. Your snorkeling trips, tourist shops, and numerous restaurants are all located here. Have lunch at Shoups or Brew STX, save the bones from your wings and toss them to the very large Tarpon (fish). You have got to do it at least once. Rumrunners is a very popular restaurant there too. The town dates back to Columbus and the Pirate days. History everywhere. Visit the Fort. Lots of history. Built in the 1700's and still standing strong. There are lots of small bars and eateries all over town. The Bombay club, Toast, 40 Strand, RAW (rum and wine) are our favorites. Most of the snorkel trip begin here, as well as parasailing.

Fredriksted is on the West end of the Island. The sunsets are unbelievable. Rainbow beach is a favorite, and you can rent Jet Ski's paddle boards and the likes. Sit on the upper deck of the Fred and watch the sun go down, Louie and Nacho's for lunch, or Rhythms. If you are a good swimmer, snorkel the pier. Everyone floats in our dense water here. Lot's of fish and sea turtles. You may even get visited by an Eagle Ray or a Manta. Sandy Point was made famous in the closing scenes of "The Shawshank Redemption". Absolutely beautiful. BUT, it's a turtle refuge and not always open. Make sure you check the dates. During turtle nesting season there are guided tours to watch the babies hatch. (Fall)

Déplacements

Rent a car.

Driving on the left can be a challenge, but our roads don't favor scooters or golf carts. And Taxi's are inconsistent and quit early. Centerline or Judi of Croix are the local favorites. MAKE A RESERVATION! Cars are limited.
Que faut-il apporter?

Pack very light.

It's very warm here. Very light clothing and dress for comfort. No one cares what kind of makeup you wear, because most of the women here don't use it. We provide towels and beach ware. I would be shocked if you needed a blanket! Bring flip flops, hiking shoes and water shoes. If it doesn't fit in a carry on, you probably don't need it :) Shorts really are formal wear!
Coutumes et culture

Greet everybody!

We are a friendly place. The local customs are to greet everyone you see. Be nice. Say please and thank you. You will hopefully take our pleasant attitude home with you! Greet everyone you see with; Good Morning! Good Afternoon! Good Night! (We don't have evenings, the sun goes down quickly, so the locals use good night as a greeting after dark) You will get better and more friendly service if you do.

The things you just gotta do!

Snorkeling Buck Island is beautiful. Snorkel the reef. Our personal favorite is Big Beards all day adventure. Swim at Buck Island and relax. Snorkel the reef, and return back to a beach hut for burgers, dogs, veggie and mahi burgers. Visit, swim some more. Beware that fruit punch!!! Lyric Sails Romantic! The Jolly Mon is a 66 foot catamaran out of Frederiksted. A small band, appetizers, smooth water, dolphins, sea turtles and sunsets to die for. If you are lucky and visiting during a full moon, you can watch the sun set in the west, and the moon rise in the east. Gorgeous!

Tiki Bars

They are everywhere. Close to the house is Cheeseburgers in American Paradise, Castaways (Best pizza!) (you'll find us there) and Ziggy's. Shupes and Brew STX are great, as well as the Domino Club (beer drinking pigs!) Rhythms at Rainbow beach and many more. Hotel on the Cay has a great beach, the bar, snorkeling and swimming. Hopefully soon they will return with Tiki Tuesdays. Awesome Bar-B-Que, music, fire dancers and Mocko Jumbies! Our restaurants are very eclectic. They have extremely varied menu's styles and Tastes.

The Ocean

Our ocean is the most beautiful shades of blue and green you have ever seen. You will keep the memory for years. It's usually about 82 degrees and wonderful. Scuba is king. We are one of the top dive locations in the world. I convinced my daughter to take her classes at home, but come here for the 4 open water dives to get certified. She loved it. I get to see her more often now :) Deep sea fishing. While not one of the greatest fishing spots in the world, is still isn't too bad. Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Wahoo are regulars. You can catch large billfish but we catch and release the marlin.

Local Laws

We have very few laws here. No speed traps, no traffic cops, limited alcohol laws, except NO TEXTING AND DRIVING, and WEAR YOUR SEATBELT. All passengers. You may walk freely with a beverage. No one complains if you bring one in, or take one out. You can have an open container in the car (as long as you aren't texting!) Bring an insulated tumbler and travel with it as you go.

Pack light

You don't need fancy clothes, makeup, or dress shoes. We have towels and coolers. Hairstyles last for seconds. The humidity and breeze kills them all. Pony ties and headbands win. Sun hats. If it weighs more than a few ounces, it's too heavy for our climate. Bring a toothbrush, sunscreen, and bathing suit. I live in sleeveless T's and shorts. Corinne lives in a sundress.
