Walking or cycling routes

👉Natural Space Muntanyans part of the Torredembarra and Creixell Beach natural space, included in the Red Natura 2000 (Costas del Tarragonés). Its main value is that it preserves the ecosystem of dunes and marshes (brackish water ponds) that has disappeared in much of the Catalan coast. 👉Ponds of the Sun and Clarà and the adjoining dunes. We approach the ponds that are in front of the oldest human nucleus in Torredembarra: Clarà. In the past, ponds had been transformed into crops (cotton, among others) and during the second half of the 20th century they were used as landfills and rubble. The partial extraction of these discharges has allowed the discovery of the primitive ecosystem, the marshes, now practically disappeared on the Catalan coast. 👉Ponds of the Saler and the adjoining dunes. The Saler pond is the largest in Torredembarra. It did not have a name until the historian Antoni Virgili found it in a document from 1,000 years ago (11th century). This name comes from the salt that was extracted when the pond dried up in summer and the salt crystallized forming a characteristic white layer. Salt was a very valuable product and for many centuries it was used as a means of payment. Hence the word "salary." 👉Baix Mar and cal Bofill. Until the 18th century Torredembarra was a small fortified town, eminently agricultural, but also with a fishing and maritime activity established on the coast in the so-called «Botigues del Mar». These casitas were mostly warehouses where fishing gear was kept and very few were inhabited. In the 19th century, the Botigues will make up the Barri de la Marina (Barrio de la Marina) or Baix a Mar, politically and religiously linked to Clarà. 👉The Torredembarra cliff. From Canyadell beach we will walk along the rocks towards the Torredembarra lighthouse, with the sea on our right. Torredembarra historic center. The passage of history has left in Torredembarra numerous buildings full of meaning. The old town has a great architectural and artistic wealth that makes it an excellent corner to take a cultural tour of the wall, the castle 🏰, the parish church of Sant Pere⛪, the Torre de la Vila or the Antoni Roig building.

👉The Green Round of Baix Gaià. One of the other interesting Altafulla tours is the Ronda Verde del Baix Gaià, which can be done either by bike or on foot. We start from the surroundings of the hermitage of San Antonio de Altafulla, where we can complete a network of rural roads of about 30 kilometers that connects different populations that form the Association of Tourist Municipalities of Baix Gaià, and that enhances natural, landscape and tourist resources of the area. During this tour, we can also appreciate the Route of the Castles🏰 del Baix Gaià, a large group of fortifications that reveal the Romanesque and medieval past of the territory. The walk runs through the castles of Altafulla, Ferran, La Riera (Castellot), El Catllar and Tamarit. The central axis of the entire route is the bed of the Gaià river, and one of the crossing points is the mouth of the river. 👉The mouth of the Gaià river. Natural Reserve of Wild Fauna since 1995. Natural space within the Natura 2000 Network. We can highlight the large number of small birds viven that live in the various habitats that the Gaià offers them. As for mammals, we highlight the large number of voles, the high density of rabbits 🐇 and the almost anecdotal presence of the fox, the badger, the weasel and the marten. We should also mention the numerous squirrels viven that live in the tops of the white pine forest, near the mouth of the river. Currently, several quite interesting projects are being carried out, such as the recovery of the riverside forest, the consolidation of a small population of the leprosy pond turtle 🦎, the recovery of irrigation ditches and road management. The La Noria de Altafulla Environmental Association organize guided tours for groups👪. 👉Four ways to Torredembarra. The path begins in the Plaza del Pozo de Altafulla and runs following the orchards that still endure in our municipality. Along the way we will be able to contemplate the Oliverot, a monumental tree 🌳 with an estimated age of more than 600 years, dry stone walls and most of the crops of the municipality, until we reach the neighboring town of Torredembarra. 👉San Antonio road to La Coma. Starting at the iconic Castillo de los Montserrat, the path leads into the green lung of Altafulla, Monte de San Antonio, with vegetation rich in aromatic plants and white pine forest. The hermitage of San Antonio is the landmark of this forest park in this town and a good viewpoint from which to contemplate its surroundings. 👉From the bed of the Gaià river in the Riera. The path makes a pleasant walk that connects Altafulla with La Riera de Gaià, following the course of the Gaià river in its lower course, surrounded by typical riverside vegetation 🎋. This path borders the entire San Antonio Mountain at its lowest point and allows us to understand its importance for this town. 👉Cametes road to Tamarit. The route connects Altafulla with a protected area at the mouth of the Gaià river, with its fauna and protected vegetation, and the magnificent Tamarit Castle, next to the waters of the Mediterranean. Halfway you will find information about the natural space in the Huerto de la Noria. A walk to enjoy the whole family. 👉Brisas del Mar road to La Pobla de Montornès.Also with an exit to the Montserrat Castle, the path connects the historic part of the town with the Brisas de Mar urbanization, to the north of the municipality, and continues towards the neighboring Pobla de Montornès. Along the way we will discover the dry stone barracks 🏚, constructions made in a traditional way without the use of mortar and which have traditionally served as a shelter for shepherds and agricultural warehouses. 👉Ferran's way to Mèdol. This path supposes the natural connection of our paths with those of the Green Belt of Tarragona. This tour brings us closer to our neighbor Ferran, a small neighborhood of Tarragona with great charm and a little further on with the Roman quarry El Mèdol, with a microclimate that favors very special vegetation.

World Heritage Site

Tarragona is a small city with more than 2000 years of history. The only city in Catalonia declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Two thousand years ago, Tarragona was the capital of the largest province of the Roman empire: the hispania citerior tarraconensis province. The city where Emperor Augustus lived between 27 and 25 BC. Currently, 14 heritage elements form the archaeological site of Tarraco. Unrivaled monuments that coexist with the medieval city that was built later. We are talking, for example, of the Amphitheater with capacity for fourteen thousand people and the only one built by the sea; the Circus with a capacity for twenty-six thousand spectators, as many as those that currently fit in a soccer stadium, something incredible if we consider that the city had around twenty thousand inhabitants; the Aqueduct, better known by the Pont del Diable, an imposing construction 27 meters high; or the Provincial Forum, political and administrative center of the province and possibly the largest public work carried out in the Iberian Peninsula until the construction of the airports. This magnificent city with its fifteen kilometers of coastline, ten beaches with crystal clear water and golden sand, is waiting for you to discover it. The best way to locate ourselves in the history of Tarragona is with the app Image Tarraco. The mobile or the tablet thus becomes a “window to the past”, through which it is not only possible to admire the grandeur and original disposition of the monuments and ancient spaces that you are physically visiting, but above all, immerse yourself in the Living atmosphere of its time of splendor. The Imageen app allows you to see through your smartphone or tablet pc an archeological enclave as it was in the past, turning your device into a window into the past. Spreading ancient history in an attractive way that provokes reflection about our past. That was the aim when Tarraco Viva was set up in 1999. “History for everyone” could be the motto for this international festival dedicated to spreading the history of Roman times. Tarraco Viva has become a benchmark event thanks to both the proposals that it makes and the quality that it offers. Military life and daily life; the legions, the theatre, the gladiators, the homes, the cuisine, the writings, the engineering, the fashion... all recreated with a common denominator: exactness. Getting to know the past is not something that is confined, rather it is the best way to understand the present and, therefore, to be able to choose the future. You will probably discover that you are more Roman than you thought. Welcome to Tarraco!

Beaches

The Costa Dorada is one of the most popular coasts of Catalonia. Its name refers to the characteristic color of its beaches of fine sand, crystal clear waters and natural landscapes. These are some of my favorite beaches.
Playa dels Muntanyans in Torredembarra It stands out for its environmental importance, since it retains in its 2 km dunes and salt marshes characteristic of virgin beaches. The visit is recommended throughout the year, to bathe, sunbathe, relax, go hiking and observe the species of animals and plants that inhabit.

Tamarit beach in Altafulla. It leans gently towards the sea, making it a perfect place to spend a family day paddling, swimming, playing and enjoying the sun and the sea. The beach offers all kinds of services such as toilets, showers, sunbed and umbrella rental, bars, restaurants and coffee shops, bicycle rentals, boat trips and water sports, as well as access for people with reduced mobility and floating wheelchairs. This beach is located next to the Gaià Delta River Nature Reserve and is bordered by poplars, willows and reeds, so you can take refuge under its shadow. The nature reserve is home to many bird species and is a great place to go for a walk, as it has a series of very good quality routes. Thanks to its wide range of facilities and its high level of security, this beach is perfect for spending long days of beach fun with the whole family. The beautiful views of the castle of Tamarit and the quiet natural environment in which it is located make this beach great for an unforgettable holiday on the Costa Dorada.

Waikiki Beach, the isolated beach of Cala Fonda is located a few kilometers from Tarragona, is one of the most pristine and best preserved beaches in the area. This nudist beach is surrounded by the Marques de la Marquesa pine forest and high cliffs of yellow limestone. The beach is 200 meters by 25 meters of fine golden sand and has warm shallow waters. Like other isolated beaches it does not offer any services or facilities, so you are planning to spend a day here, you will have to bring your own food, drinks and umbrellas. You can only access this beach on foot and there is no access for people with reduced mobility.

The Canyadell de Altafulla beach enjoys great quality and tranquility, for its fine golden sand, accompanied by a good Mediterranean climate, and for its unique small and semi-urban space. It is a small cove sheltered by Roquer de Torredembarra, with a length of 60 meters and a width of 35. It is a shared natural space between Torredembarra and Altafulla. It has been awarded as "virgin beach" by the Tarragona Ecological Group and the Ebro of Ecologists in Action (GETE-EeAC).

Eating out in a terrace

In Tarragona there are many restaurants and very good. Some of them keep part of the old provincial forum in their structure and many of them have terraces in incomparable settings. These are some of my favorite restaurants when I want to eat on an outdoor terrace:
It is in the Forum square. In addition to a restaurant, it is a wine bar and they have very good quality French wines at a very good price. The kitchen is Km 0 and never better said, since they have the fruit market in the same square and you can see them buying some ingredient from a dish you just ordered. I love the glass bread they make themselves, the candied artichokes, the Santurce anchovies, the tataki ...

Vineries

Route by car 🚙 through the Priorat wineries. The Priorat region, in Tarragona 🗺, is one of the best wine-growing 🍇 areas in Europe gracias thanks to its unique form of terrace cultivation. The landscapes are home to vineyards of more than 30 years placed between deep canyons and valleys where the sun affects almost all year and the rain is just for the correct maturation of the grape. These climatological characteristics, together with soils of volcanic origin rich in reddish shales, are the personal hallmark that is later reflected in the wine. The wineries in the area have specialized in
