There are a number of amazing hikes for all levels and abilities. Take the whole summit loop for 4.2 miles or take different hikes to the summit or waterfall. Ask us about specific recommendations and/or itineraries!

The Powerhouse Trail in Elkin is one of it's newest and is a hidden gem for a quick 1 mile roundtrip walk to Carter Falls. The hike is 7 minutes from our cottage and worth a quick visit. For a longer hike, start at Grassy Creek Vineyard and hike to the Falls and back.

Widow's Creek Falls is a popular swimming hole within Stone Mountain State park. Visitors enjoy sliding down a portion of the falls into a large pool. The falls are just .2 miles from the parking area. It's a perfect spot for a short walk and a picnic.

The Elkin-Allegheny Rail Trail is a scenic 2 mile walk along Big Elkin Creek that starts from the Elkin Rec Center. It has several bridge crossings, interactive elements from the old railroad, and benches to take the scenery in. If you continue down the paved path, you can also connect into downtown Elkin. We were surprised by the trail's beauty and have been back many times. A beer at Angry Troll or Skull Camp in Elkin is how we like to end a visit here.

Very friendly staff and plenty of outdoor seating. These are arguably the best views from any vineyard we've been to. It's less than a mile away from Raffaldini so very easy to visit both on the same visit.

Raffaldini has beautiful grounds and rivals nearby Piccione for best vineyard views in the area. If coming from Charlotte, we often recommend these two on the way to the cottage.
