Minturn is between Vail and Beaver Creek, and has a much more homey and quirky feel. There are great restaurants and shops, and many trails easily accessed from town.
Leadville is about 45 minutes from our house, driving directly south on Highway 24. Leadville is a historic railroad and mining town - and still has an active mine. There are great restaurants and museums there. A Colorado favorite is to go to Melanzana, a store that makes great shirts/sweatshirts for all of your adventuring needs. Made in the store in Leadville!

Food scene
Get a grab-n-go burrito on your way to the ski hill! The cinnamon rolls are a great buy as well. They've also opened a bar in the evenings on Friday and Saturday nights with great cocktails.

Right now, Thai Kitchen is only doing take-out, but they have DELICIOUS Thai food and big portions to feed you for a few meals.

While the food here is not my favorite, this is a great bar with a great apres-ski vibe. Many locals ski the Minturn Mile from Vail all the way to the Saloon for a beer. We take all of our visitors here!

Sightseeing
Vail mountain is a 15 minute drive from our house. Parking is generally paid in Vail, but if you intend to ski all day, you can take the bus from Minturn and back again at the end of the day! And if you're here in the summer, you can hike up and take the gondola down for free!

Beaver Creek is about a 20 minute drive from our house. Parking is a little harder to navigate than at Vail (for $10 parking you have to park at a shuttle lot), but it can be quieter and less crowded than Vail!

Bring layers & options
Weather in the rockies can change on a dime. In the summer it can be 30 at night, and 75 during the day. In the winter, a storm can roll through and drop the temperature quite a bit. However, the sun here is very strong and heats things up quickly! Wear your sunscreen!

Altitude
Minturn is at 7800 feet - that's high! Drink lots of water, understand that your tolerance for alcohol may be lower, and take it easy if you need to!

Skiing at Vail & Beaver Creek
This year you need to book reservations to ski at Vail and Beaver Creek. Make sure you book in advance! Even in a normal year, it can be cheaper to have your tickets/epic pass purchased ahead of time!
