This establishment is simply a Mariposa Classic. It may be the longest-running restaurant in Mariposa. (This is just a suspicion; we don’t really know. The Pizza Factory is likely a close rival). As a family, this is the restaurant we went to when celebrating something special. Highway 140 and 7th Street www.charlesstreetdinnerhouse.com

Neighborhoods

Hite’s Cove We love this place, especially in the spring when the California poppies and other wildflowers are blooming. The narrow trail is perched high above the Merced River, with beautiful views of the canyon and the water below. After a couple miles, the trail winds down to the river and follows it at a closer distance to an old mining camp. Hike all the way to the mine or just enjoy the views of the river! Directions Drive to Highway 140 toward Yosemite. In about 16 miles, you’ll see a building on the right, called “Savage’s Trading Post.” To the left of the building is the trailhead. There is limited parking in front of the Trading Post, or roadside parking on the river side of the road.

Stockton Creek Reservoir in Mariposa If you’d like to explore the area surrounding Mariposa, the Stockton Creek Preserve is a lovely trail, if a bit less dramatic than the trails in Yosemite or along the Merced River. The Stockton Creek Reservoir is the water supply for the town of Mariposa, and there are several trails on the property. See the Sierra Foothill Conservancy website at www.sierrafoothill.org for a trail map and more information. The trailhead is on the North side of Mariposa. As you drive toward the town, look to the left for a view of the reservoir. Just around the next corner, you’ll see a parking area and a closed gate. This is the trailhead!
