Sightseeing

You can do a big loop, going from Bozeman to West Yellowstone to Gardiner, MT, then back! Or the opposite order! There are more animals in the north area of the park and they are more active in the morning, so start early!

Sooo pretty and fun! There is tons of driving, bring extra food and drinks and get gas right before you go because in the park it’s expensive. There are a few food places in the park and restrooms at every large sightseeing stop.

There’s a huge gift shop, restaurant, ice cream parlor, restrooms, and visitors center here. This is the busiest part of the park, so early in the morning or later in the evening is probably best! Look up the times it goes off to try to plan when to get there so you don’t just miss it!

If you are heading to Yellowstone from Idaho Falls, this is a fun place to see bears and other animals from your car. There’s a petting zoo and some little rides too. You can feed bears on the top of a bus or feed baby bears a bottle if you get there early and get a reservation! Only open in the summer. Best to go early to beat the crowds!

This is a fun place to stop. It is a basic, not-so-nice hot springs pool. But the grill at the pool is pretty darn good, and their fancy restaurant is very nice and good. They often have live music in the bar. You can ask them about horseback riding, or going on a carriage tour too, they do those sometimes! Also, it's a hotel if you want to spend the night.

This is in the north entrance area near Gardiner. The hot springs are fun but a little run down. The bar is fun but their formal restaurant is really delicious. Their poolside grill has really good food if you are looking for more family friendly or casual food.

Yellowstone Advice

Yellowstone is closed in the off seasons at the West Yellowstone entrance. If going to Yellowstone in the winter, spring, or fall, you need to go to the North entrance near Gardiner, MT. The north area is where most of the animals are located. In the summer, If you are heading to the park from Bozeman, my advice is to go to Gardiner to the north entrance first thing in the morning because the animals are out and more active. My favorite stops are Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower-Rosevelt, Canyon to see the Grand Canyon and somehow get to Old Faithful. Exit West Yellowstone entrance to get back.
