One of two movie theaters left in GA that can play 35mm film. They show the newest movies, Indy films, and occasional cult classics. They offer great wine, beer, and cocktails. Their Danish modern influenced lounge was designed by nationally known artist Didi Dunphy and is a great place to converse with folks.

Southern Star Studio is a charming local pottery gallery and workspace founded by one of our favorite Athens artists, the talented Maria Dondero. Several local artists work and show their diverse ceramics in this pretty old heating and air manufacturing building. Open Fri & Sat 10am-4pm (check website for details and events).

The Grit has been an Athens favorite for over thirty years and is described by Travel & Leisure as "A legendary vegetarian eatery." Back in the day, you would frequently find Michael Stipe here; it is still a cult favorite among local and national musicians, so keep your eyes open! They have an amazing vegetarian menu and serve up a fabulous brunch on the weekends. Fantastic cakes, desserts and, ,if you get there early, early vegan donuts, too :)

Great specialty pizzas; we recommend The Athenian, Summer In Turin, the Blonde Greek, and, our favorite, the Muy Thai (vegetarians, specify no chicken-it's great)! You'll find wonderful, basic comfort food here: fries, fried calamari, chicken fingers, spinach artichoke dip, hot wings, subs, salads, and authentic pasta dishes. Voted best hot wings 6 years in a row and a great selection of amazing local beers!

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is a peaceful place to explore nature outdoors or indoors. Inside the conservatory, relax and enjoy some exotic plants, art and architecture, and a wonderful cafe! The indoor atrium has a walkway with orchids and hundreds of other plants from tropical zones. Outside, there are several great running and walking trails through the woods and along the river, medicinal and herb gardens, a stellar garden and a new play area specifically for kids to climb and explore designed by the wonderfully talented Athens mosaic artist Krysia Ara.

Shows here are more intimate, with a seated environment, and start early (typically around 8pm) and end by 11 pm at the latest.
