Located on the Vermilion River, Palmetto Island State Park offers a real south Louisiana outdoors experience. A boat launch provides access to the river for fishing and boating, while the interior lagoons allow canoers and kayakers an up-close look at the native plant and animal life. https://www.lastateparks.com/parks-preserves/palmetto-island-state-park

Known as "The Most Cajun Place on Earth" Intracoastal City is the nearest access to Vermilion Bay and the Gulf of Mexico in this region, but don't expect a bustling city with a large population. Throughout the years, Intracoastal City evolved into servicing the area's oil and shrimp industries. After the destruction of Hurricane Rita's flooding and the downturn of the oil industry, Intracoastal City is mostly a home base for the shrimping and fishing industry. Many recreational fishermen dock out of the Abbeville Harbor and Terminal Boat Launch to try their luck for saltwater fish and crabs.

The Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge is located along the Gulf Coast in eastern Cameron Parish on land donated to the state by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1920. Managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries, the refuge originally encompassed 86,000 acres of wilderness. This state wildlife refuge plays host to hundreds of thousands of ducks, geese, coots, and numerous wading birds each year. It also serves as a resting area for many of the transient birds that winter in Central and South America. Year-round residents such as nutria, muskrat, raccoon, otter, and alligator are in good numbers in the area. Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge is one of the most biologically diverse wildlife areas in the nation and has the distinction of having the highest alligator nesting densities of any place in the United States. A public boat launch is located at the East End Locks. Exceptional opportunities for recreational crabbing and bank fishing are available at East End Locks/boat launch and Price Lake Road.

If Cajun Claws is the best then it's because they learned from these guys. Richards is an institution for boiled seafood and they serve the premium catch in the country. Their seafood buffet will be the most delicious best deal you've ever had.

City/town information

Visit Lafayette to experience the ‘Happiest City in America’ As the largest city in Lafayette Parish, Lafayette, Louisiana mixes all the amenities of urban life, including universities and medical centers, with the unmistakable influence of the region's venerable Cajun and Creole cultures. Visitors can learn about the area's roots by touring either the Acadian Cultural Center or Vermilionville. Numerous music clubs feature homegrown talent, including both traditional and contemporary Cajun and Zydeco performers. Two popular festivals, Festival International de Louisiane in April and Festivals Acadiens in October, draw many thousands of visitors to town and anchor a calendar year full of celebrations of the area's vibrant culture.

Wether you are looking for a place to escape to and get some work done or an outpost to the natural world that the gulf region has to offer, Pine Island is located in the middle of it all away from it all. Some of the best crabbing and fishing in the state is just minutes from our doorstep. There are also a number of outfitters in the region if you are looking to book a guided adventure.
Que faut-il apporter?

Rain is a common thing in this part of the world.

It's a good idea to bring rain gear and some rain boots if you plan on spending time outside. Otherwise watch the potential storm roll in from the safety of the screened in front porch.

We are very remote.

You will need reliable transportation if you plan on visiting our home. We are at the end of a dirt road 7 miles from the nearest service so make sure you have a reliable vehicle at all times just in case you need to run into town for any reason.
