This is a large but quiet park about 5 min drive away with an amazing fun walk down to the beach. Kids will run on ahead through the ferns and tall fir trees. You can easily imagine pixies and fairies wandering about and I am sure I have seen a hobbit or too running ahead on the long winding downhill path to the beach. Once on the beach you can find little sand crabs, driftwood, and occasionally sea shells. These paths are not for the intrepid as it is fun to get to the beach but can be a long walk back up the hill to the parking lot. Make sure you go to the bathroom and pack all your stuff you won't want to walk back up for some small item you forgot in the car. The park also has a great playground and picnic area where you can smell the flowers in bloom and play frisbee in the big open field. This park is not as visited so often you will almost have it to yourself which i love.

This is a great place to take a picnic or launch our canoe or watch the boats come and go. Much of the beach here is privately owned so you can't really take a beach wander but the marina has an awesome fireworks display

This is an amazing walk out to the newly revamped walkway. You can sometimes see seals out here. You will need a pass to park which you can borrow from me. If you go early in the morning and late in the evening it is quieter and you may see more wildlife. The paths are mostly wheelchair accessible and easy flat walks. If you make it all the way out to the dock (it is a bit of a haul for a casual wander) bring a blanket and sit and wait to see what happens to swim or fly by.

This stop is just about a 2 mile drive away. You will need to borrow my park pass in order to park but then you can do the about 1 mile long walk out to the old railroad dock. If you have binoculars bring them so you can see the seals out on the rocks. On a clear day you can hear them calling out to each other. Sometimes there are dead washed up jelly fish on the beach and you know how kids love to poke and prod with a stick. The path out here is totally paved and easy for someone in a wheelchair. Once you get out to the end there is a bunch of history boards about the old railway logging trade in the area. You can also see bats flying through here depending on the time of the year that you visit.

Percival landing is a great place to visit in downtown Olympia. It is about a 7 min drive from the house. If you visit on the weekend there are often events going on down here. There are cool boats to observe at the Marina, beautiful gardened paths to walk and at the end a tall lookout where the kids can pretend to be pirates and take over the world. There is a playground with some newer equipment. There are public bathrooms. There is a fantastic farm market on the thurs, fri, and sat. in season. We do have a lot of homeless in the downtown area and this can sometimes be disturbing if you are not prepared. This is a great opportunity to talk to your children before you go about panhandling, your views on the homeless, mentally unwell, and the results of the use of illiicet drugs. If your kids are prepared with your families perspective this can be a great learning opportunity and add to the adventure.
