Two miles or a four-minute drive from Maple Roost. Be prepared to wait in the car line - someone will frequently come out to your car to take your order if the line is long.

Privately owned and available by appointment only for tours, but you can do a drive-by. Rattle & Snap is famous for both its Greek Revival architecture and its backstory. In the 1800s, William Polk won 5,500 acres in a game against the governor of North Carolina. At the time the land was part of North Carolina. Polk divided up the land among his children. His son, George Washington Polk, built Rattle and Snap in 1845. His son, Bishop Leonidas Polk, built the historic St. John's Episcopal Church on the property in 1839.
