Neighbourhoods

Assala is a residential area that has a lovely mix of Bedouins, Egyptians and foreigners living it. It has become increasingly popular with tourists and is a great place to enjoy the nature and peace of Dahab without being far from the touristy areas. The main local market in Dahab is located in Assala Square and has everything from fresh fruit, veg and meat to kitchen shops, phone shops and spice shops. Check out Mustufa’s coffee shop for fresh ground coffee for your morning brew! There are also a number of restaurants serving Egyptian food - ask me for a list of recommendations with locations!

The Lighthouse Area is the beginning of the touristic walkway. There are many different cafes and restaurants along the seafront that you can have a drink or meal in, as well as going for a swim. The water starts shallow but becomes deep very quickly. If you swim to the left to the end of the cafes, you will come to a beautiful reef which you snorkel along. It’s highly recommended! On the other side of the walkway, you’ll find many shops selling clothes and souvenirs. There’s even a tailor who can make clothes to measure for you!

Visit Abu Galoom on a day or overnight trip. Outside of Dahab, camps in Abu Galoom offer simple living with fantastic views of the mountains and sea, in addition to opportunities to snorkel among the Red Sea fish. Egyptian food is offered in the camps, so you don’t need to worry about going hungry! To get there, you can either take a taxi to Blue Hole followed by a boat, or walk to Abu Galoom on foot. I’d recommend taking a taxi to Blue Hole and start walking from there to avoid the main road.

Déplacements

Walking, bikes and taxis.

Dahab is pretty small so often you can walk to wherever you are going. To get around more quickly, you can hire bikes from one of the many bike hire shops in Dahab. Make sure you try the bike first to check it’s fully working! For quick and easy transport, taxis are cheap and cheerful - they are usually pickups.
