Kensington Gardens is only a 10 minute walk up Gloucester Road and you can spend the whole day there relaxing and watching the world go by. Has great children's play ground too.

Arts & Culture

Our apartment is right next to the London Museum District and most people visit at least one of the big three: the Natural History Museum, (dinosaurs, animals and the human body), the Science Museum (steam engines, planes, trains and auto-mobiles) and the Victoria and Albert Museum. All within a 5-20 minute walk of the apartment along the Cromwell Road.
Always has an interesting exhibition and great tea room.

My absolute favourite museum in London (I love it so much I am a member although it is usually free to visit) it has the most amazing apparel exhibits some permanent and some just for a limited period such as the recent Dior and Mary Quant. Always worth a visit even if you just pop in for an hour and visit one area (I love the silver galleries and the Beatrix Potter).

Shopping

We are spoilt for choice in Kensington with amazing department stores just up the road within walking distance at Knightsbridge and the designer boutiques along sloane avenue or the thriving high street at High Street Kensington or on the Kings Road all within 20 minute walk or you can hop on a bus from Gloucester road or grab a Boris Bike and cycle there.

I love just wandering around this shop and picking up design ideas and a few trinkets. Brompton Cross has lots of great shops as does nearby Walton Street. Well worth a visit.

Essentials

There are three great supermarkets all within a 5 minute walk of our apartment. If you want to go big there is a huge Sainsbury's on the otherside of the Cromwell Road , or on Gloucester Road you can do a quick stop for milk and essentials at Tesco Metro and somewhere in between is Waitrose is the which offers the highest quality supermarket experience in the UK.
Not too big not too small so has everything you need without the hassle or queues.

Getting Around

We are in a great location for transport around London and out to Heathrow. Use the tube or catch a bus (the tube in normally quicker and the bus more leisurely) to pretty much anywhere. There are always loads of Ubers hanging around so you don't have to wait long.
Tube station on the Picadilly and Circle and District lines. Regular Bus stop and tour bus stop. Boris bikes for rent (now called Santander).

Addison Lee are the leading car/cab company in London. You can order them online or by phone and they are very safe and trustworthy. I put my kids in them on their own whereas I don't with Ubers. My choice but thought I would share with you incase you wanted to book a car to take you to the airport or train station. They are better value than a black cab as its a fixed price so doesn't go up if you get stuck in traffic.

My go-to local Indian restaurant. Its a cut above the normal and serves food that is a bit lighter than the traditional curry houses such as Star of India round the corner.

Its Indian fine dining at its best with a grand piano playing in the centre, pretty pricey though so we save it for special occasions. Top Tip - the Sunday lunch buffet is great value for money!

Really good authentic Japanese restaurant on Old Brompton Road near South Kensington tube station. My youngest daughters favourite. Note that it is quite pricey but worth it. Low key, pared back, quiet atmosphere, its all about the food here.

A great spot for breakfast or brunch. We came here for breakfast on my eldest daughters 18th birthday (July) and sat outside on the terrace. The food is good but also a place to see and be seen!
