***If you have the time to get out to louisbourg, you won't be dissapointed. The light house walk is by far our favorite as a family. If you make a day of it, there is the Fortress of Louisbourg, and a hike there as well, that you can't miss as it is right next to the road that takes you in. Past the fortress is a popular local beach, Kenington Cove, Known for its beauty and its waves, (and sometimes wasps)! If you venture to louisbourg, make sure to stop at the big red bus for their home made fries and burgers, again a favourite of ours!!
Please check the times of the Fortress and Big Red Bus before you go, as things change often when you run on island time. Kennington cove has even been known to be closed, so check before you go!***

Louisbourg Lighthouse

This is an incredibly popular beach for locals! Every one heads out "on the Mira" for the weekends in the summer. When the tide is going out, you can walk FOREVER... but make sure to look out for crabs under your feet lol

This is a great location for some family fun, from the bouncy bag and playground, to the petting zoo area, and canteen, there is a little something for each member of the family. It is a nice short outing to see local wildlife that has been rescued, and just to let the kids run free.

Looking for a little history? Fort petrie is only an 8 minute drive from our little airbnb. Down the road, on the way to Sydney is also, St Alphonse Church which is an incredibly popular photo op for travellers.

An absolute must, if you get the time, is to check out chimney corner beach. Make sure to google and save the directions before you go, as service is very sketchy. ALSO, I recommend to go early in the morning, or later in the day as it has grown in popularity over the last 2 years.

The donair and pizza pot pies, are to die for, but you can never go wrong with a traditional chicken, turkey, or even vegan, pot pie!!

Since covid, a quick google search will give you the updated dates and times the market is open! With so many local food choices, and artisans it is a must stop shop! You can enjoy live music and incredible eats! Our personal favourite is the Korean food made by Chef Nathan, who also happens to be an owner of Gaslight Cafe in town.
