Food Scene

**COVID Means you now need to book for a table, but takeaway is still available** This is my go to place for Coffee. They also do a proper pot of tea and have their own Chai. It's also a great place for breakfast, brunch, lunch or a sweet treat. And it's gluten free, paleo and vegetarian friendly (I'm none of these and still love the food). As a bonus it's a family business, has a great atmosphere, and if you're inclined, a chess board...

Wonderful atmosphere, great food and live music most weekends. Best of all, if it's a nice night, book a spot on their huge balcony.

Bell's have their own, HUGE range of flavours for Milkshakes, Thickshakes and Spiders. They also have ice cream, old style lollies, coffee and some regular food, as well as a museum, some interesting stories and fun odds and ends for sale. I recommend the turkish delight thickshake.

It's nature, hiking, bushwalking, sculpture, picnics and BBQ all rolled into one. Check the Tourist Information Centre for opening and closing times as well as costs (not much, just for the upkeep of facilities and it's well worth it). You'll need a car to get out there, but there are BBQ facilities and a toilet once you're there. Apart from the beautiful walking trails, the main attractions are the amazing sculptures created by artists from around the world. Take a designated driver, a bottle of your favourite, some fruit and cheese and head out at Sunrise or Sunset for the best effect.

Home to The Big Picture (yes, we're imaginitive with our names out here) the world's largest acrylic painting on canvas by a single artist. There's a fee to see the picture, but it's worth it. Then take a look at the handmade jewellery, sculpture and art or buy yourself some chocolate

New exhibitions are opened regularly, but Broken Hill has an impressive permanent collection. Entry is only a gold coin donation and even the building itself is an historic piece of architecture.

It's a great Golf Course, but I like it because of the scenery and the wildlife. It's beautiful.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Highly recommend. Book in advance for early in your trip as this is subject to weather conditions & if they have to reschedule you'll need other free nights. Broken Hill is a great spot for stargazing. Add in recliner chairs, snuggly sleeping bags, hot drinks and an incredibly knowledgable guide & you've got a seriously enjoyable activity to do by yourself, with friends or with the family. Be warned, the winter sessions get cold, but it's well worth rugging up for!

Sightseeing

Silverton is a great addition to your travels in and around Broken Hill, provided you have a car. The Pub is iconic - you'll have seen it in any number of ads and movies. It's also a fun place to have a drink, some food, interact with the locals and there's often live music. The Cafe on the hill has a huge amount of Mad Max memorabilia and good food. There are also various Artists and their workspaces and wares. There are historical spots like the Old School and the Gaol, and Penrose Park is a bit of a novelty. And if you want a walk in the bush, this is a great place to start from with walking trials to suit beginers to experts.

Mundi Mundi Lookout shows just how big the outback is. It's cliche, but on a good day you can see forever.

One of the reservoirs of Broken Hill, but as with Umberumberka, there's little to no water left. It's beautiful, peaceful, quiet and sad.
