Want to see the famous Seljord sea worm? Fabulous animals or real thing, the sea worm adorns the municipal coat of arms of Seljord, the Telemark municipality where Seljordsvatn is located. It covers 16.5 km², and with that it has a 93rd place on the list of Norway's largest lakes. The lake is about 15 km long, and barely 2 km at its widest. Maximum depth is stated at 145 m. Seljordsvatn has a drain through Bøelva down to Norsjø, and the largest inflow is Vallaråi. The river comes from Flatdal at the north end of the lake. Here at the outlet is the village Seljord. It is the municipality's administration center, and houses just under half of its 3,000 inhabitants. Seljordsvatn is only 116 m.o.h., but high mountains surround the lake. At the northern end is Skorve with peaks up to 1370 m.o.h. Lifjell rises more than 1100 m above the water surface along the entire east side, while the west side is dominated by somewhat lower forest ridges before the terrain rises up to 1079 m.o.h. at Brokefjell.

The birthplace for all skiing An active farming community many people make their living from the land here and as such it is a great place to experience a «real piece» of heartland Norway. There are approximately 250 people living in the valley and community spirit is strong with a large number of clubs and voluntary working groups where many are actively involved. Local working-bee days are always a highlight here – with almost everyone turning up with rakes and shovels to help keep Morgedal looking great! The local store is a real meeting place and shopping often takes a bit longer as people enjoy a good chat. Shaped like a natural amphitheater – the central area of Morgedal is dominated by a small lake and surrounded by steep hills which are often heavy with snow in the winter months. At a height of 426 meters above sea level – Morgedal has a typical inland climate with cold and generally snow sure winters and temperate summers.

Experience Norway's largest stave church - a cathedral in wood from the 13th century that is still in use as a parish church. Exterior and interior take you back to the fascinating world of the Middle Ages. Heddal Stave Church is 25 m long, 17 m wide and 29 m high, with three projecting spiers. The building material is ore pine. A walkway surrounds the entire building, with four entrance portals. The carved ornaments around the doors are lush and mysterious. Inside the church there are traces of various phases of 800 years of church life. A group of medieval furniture has recently been made available. The motifs on these constitute a captivating testimony to Norse faith and myth.

The potholes are round or long wells in solid rock. They occur by erosion of water that has seen rocks and gravel in rotating motions. Giant pots are most often found in rapids and waterfalls, where the lake has great speed and forms gorges. Giant pots can also be found in places where there are no rivers. These are derived from meltwater during the ice age. The potholes can be several meters in diameter and 10-20 meters deep. The river Fyresåna has for centuries swirled around with stones and gravel in the river bed, which has since been regulated for electricity production. Before the power builders went to the plant, the potholes were a well-protected secret under the lake. Only when a large part of the water masses were laid in pipes did the round depressions in the river bed become visible. This natural phenomenon is found all the way south in the municipality,

A GREAT MOUNTAIN TRIP for those who are fit to the bone - it is steep up the mountain. Hægefjell is one of the highest peaks in Nissedal municipality! Norwegian and German climbers discovered the unique mountains in Nissedal in the late 80's. The majestic Hægefjell has in the last 20 years become one of the most used climbing mountains in Norway, with about 50 different routes in all levels of difficulty. One of the most famous routes in Europe for inexperienced climbers can be found here: Via Lara. Along the first part of the trail there are some huge rocks. They are used for climbing or bouldering, as it is called when climbing on rocks without securing. From Treungen you drive to Fjone and turn left onto a gravel road by Fjone skule. The exit ring is marked with a sign to Hægefjell. This is a private road, so remember to pay a toll of NOK 70. Follow the gravel road until you reach the car park at the foot of the mountain. Hægefjell is a popular mountain area for both hikers and mountain climbers from all over Europe, so you are probably not alone there. In the parking lot there is an information board with i.a. map of the trip. Follow the gravel road on foot for approx. 40 min and turn right on a well-marked and signposted forest path. The road to the top is steep at the beginning before it flattens out into hilly marsh areas. The last part before the top is also a steep climb. When you reach the top you can enjoy the view over Nisser, Vrådal and the mountains towards Fyresdal. You have to calculate approx. 2 hours walk to the top, and according to the information board in the parking lot, the trip is 11 km round trip. This is a great trip for the whole family that gives a real feeling of heights at the top. This trip must be experienced !! (PS! Can drive on the top of Vrådal Panorama, and start the trip there. Aprox 8 hour trip from that side)
