Hiking and Nature Walks

Walk out the front door of our AirBNB and you’ll be right at the parking lot for one of Colorado Springs favorite public open spaces. Red Rock Canyon Open Space offers (in our biased opinion) some of the best views in Colorado Springs. In just a short walk or hike, you can check out full panoramic views of Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. There is something for everyone: • rock climbing • mountain bike trails and bike park • fenced-in off-leash dog area • hiking trails for a quick 20min walk, or long hikes through connecting trails up to Gold Camp Road and Section 16 • ADA accessible trails. We love this open space so much that we got married in it!

Pikes Peak is one of Colorado's 14ers (mountains that summit over 14,000 ft above sea level). If you've ever wondered what the phrase "purple mountains majesty" was inspired by in the song "America the Beautiful" ...just take a look at the sky near Pikes Peak in the morning. As one of only 2 14ers in Colorado that allows you to drive all the way to the top... Pikes Peak is truly a "choose your own adventure". You can get to the top by: taking a train (the Pikes Peak Cog Railway), driving your car, taking a shuttle, or riding your road bike up the Pikes Peak Highway, or by hiking one of two preferred routes (the Barr Trail is longer but offers an overnight stay at Barr Camp, or the "backside" as it's referred to around here will get you up in less miles).

Get up close and personal with the rock formations you can see from the kitchen window! Garden of the Gods is a great, ADA accessible, gem in Colorado Springs. You can make a trip to Garden of the Gods as adventurous as you like… take a loop of the scenic road to get the views without even exiting your car, rent a road bike and bike the road for extra credit (we recommend going in the morning before the traffic grows), park and hike the trails, or grab yourself a free climbing permit and rope up- you can climb many of the rock faces!

Check out the schedule at Weidner Field for tickets to the Switchbacks (Colorado Springs’ very own minor league soccer team- we’re season ticket holders!) or for other fun concerts and events at the field. Close enough to ride bikes there on a nice day! Ask us for bike route tips.

Enjoy the afternoon walking around Manitou Springs- a quirky town with a ton of character just 10 minutes away. The penny arcade is a great activity for kids of all ages, enjoy everything from skee ball and newer games to vintage old style games. While you're there, be sure to grab from frozen custard from Colorado Custard Company just down the sidewalk. A local owned Manitou Springs classic- ask the owner about the Pikes Peak Marathon... he's won it 12 times!
