Sightseeing

Fool Hollow Lake is a State Park and is less than 1/4 mile away from the house. It's great for paddling, fishing and hiking. There is a 7 mile trail (3.5 out and back) around the lake. It's an easy flat trail with beautiful views. While a day-use permit will cost you $7, it's well worth it. It can get busy on the weekends, but most evenings you'll only see a few people walking the trails and fishing. Boats are allowed, but are limited by horsepower.

Forest Lakes is one of my favorite spots and is about an hours drive from Show Low and 2 hours from Phoenix. There is a paved walking trail along the Mogollon Rim so it offers fantastic view. It gets really busy in the summer. There are several more lakes in the area.

City/town information

Pinetop-Lakeside is a quaint little town with a lot to do, especially in the summer. Pinetop offers a variety of boutiques, antiques and delicious local restaurants. In the summer, there are several outdoor venues where you can grab a bite to eat and listen to live music. There are more trails than I'd be able to count so it's a great place to hike, bike and ATV. Between Show Low and Pinetop there are 4 small lakes you can fish and paddle on.

This is one of the more unique spots on the Mountain. Think gourmet food trucks, an Airstream converted into the Beerstram Bar, a huge stage for live music, dance floor, yard games, fire pits, unique seating in converted vehicles, pop up shops, real restrooms & unforgettable nights!

Neighborhoods

About the Neighborhood: My home is located in Show Low Golf Club and Country Club Estates. The neighbors are friendly and if you happen to be out on the back patio when golfers tee off, they are usually pretty friendly too. About the Home: -1140 square feet -Room for rent is 12x12 -Guest bathroom has toilet and shower -Built in 2001, it has some upgrades, but it will continue to be a work in progress.

Conseils sur la ville

Déplacements

Your own vehicle would be the best way to get around.

This is a small town and we don't have Ubers or Lyfts. We have a local company called Safe Ride and Delivery that can give you a lift if needed though. They operate in Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside.
Coutumes et culture

Permits are required to go on Apache Reservation land.

Fort Apache Reservation is just Southeast of Pinetop. Permits are required to visit any of the lakes or hikes on this land. I have been told it is not recommended to travel solo on this land. The reservation has different laws they abide by. For example, there is a ban on the sale and use of alcohol. If you're going to enjoy their beautiful land, just be on your best behavior.
Réservez avant de partir

There is such a thing as "Mountain Time"

There's a reason the locals call Show Low, Slow Low. Locals are laid back and truly exhibit a relaxed mountain vibe. I'd suggest checking out a business' website or Facebook page to check hours before you go. Many of the restaurants are locally owned and sometimes close up early if it's slow and many are not open on Mondays. Most business change their hours in the summer and winter as summer is the 'tourist' season with everyone coming up from Phoenix to get out of the heat.

Show Low Regional Airport Flies To and From Phoenix

If you don't mind a small plane, you can fly to and from Phoenix fairly affordably on Boutique Air. I haven't flown with them yet, but I've heard that they sometimes run on 'Mountain Time'.
