A must try if you are looking for a familiar and welcoming atmosphere but different from the classic "trattoria" for the innovative combinations and elegant plating. The name "Conciabocca", meaning the "cheat" ruse that alleviate suffering, comes from the poem "The diet" (also written on the wall inside the restaurant) by the very Roman Aldo Fabrizi. The menu takes up the classics of traditional Roman cuisine following the seasons and reworking it in a modern key (among the best dishes the chinese Bao filled with Roman-style meat Picchiapò). Taverna Volpetti is the restaurant around the corner of the historic Salumeria, from which it supplies the best Italian and international ingredients. The menu changes periodically: start with tastings and platters of cheeses and cured meats of all kinds, and then continue with first and second courses that follow the chef's inspiration (tagliolini with truffles or with butter and anchovies, beef tartare, creamed cod...). The wine list is worth the visit!

An elegant restaurant to try if the sea is sacred to you. Fish arrives every morning from the auctions of Anzio (a locality on the Roman coast) and this guarantee freshness and seasonality and allows a significant reduction in costs (I challenge anyone to find such a refined fish restaurant with a tasting menu at 40 euros).

Authentic atmosphere in a real institution for Roman pizza, thin and crunchy. The pizza makers roll out, fill and bake in a spectacular assembly line while the noisy waiters serve the tables (inside and outside). Service is very fast since you can self-write your order on the paper menu and 5 minute later an hot Supplì will already arrive. The bill in fact does not include service and cover charge and hardly exceed 15 euros per person.

Cozy restaurant that takes his name from the owner's grandmother Jole... and it seems to be in her living room with a delightful outdoor area! "Before Dinner" are the drinks of the past, served in old glasses, to drink together with appetizers. These include boiled meat croquettes with green sauce, "panzanella" with marinated anchovies and tripe in tomato sauce with mint, pecorino romano and rosemary toasted bread. Among the first courses roman classics (Amatriciana, Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe and Gricia) and the amazing homemade ravioli stuffed with oxtail. Second courses: Roman-style meat rolls, baccalà or Picchiapò stew, while the side dishes vary according to the season. Must try dessert? The typical Maritozzo with cream and Nutella!

Ideal if you want to try traditional Roman cuisine without ending up in a tourist trap with figure menu. Do not miss the Bucatini alla Amatriciana, accompanied by a good wine and a delicious focaccia to make "scarpetta" (meaning bread-dipping). They are so abundant and juicy that they need a nice bib printed with sayings in Roman dialect, a gift from the restaurant. If you are not yet satisfied, a tasty specialty are grilled artichokes, but the menu offers many typical Roman dishes such as Rigatoni alla Pajata, Gricia with artichokes, Tonnarelli cacio e pepe, Roman-style tripe, etc...

A real Roman "trattoria", which has remained unchanged since 1957. No reinterpretations and fake rustic furnishings but traditional first courses and Quinto Quarto (the meat's offal). Must try: Rigatoni with Coda alla Vaccinara, made with beef tail, tomato, roman pecorino cheese, pine nuts, raisins and a secret ingredient... bitter cocoa!

Historic restaurant to try if you go crazy for artichokes, "alla romana" (cooked in a pan with garlic, parsley and mint) and "alla giudìa" (fried). The menu is in fact very Roman and seasonal: in the months of December and January you will find the famous soup with ray fish and broccoli, from January to April typical "Puntarelle" (chicory salad with anchovy) while in March the homemade Fettuccine alla Gricia with broad beans.

Shabby chic style restaurant where in the past the cattle of the nearby Slaughterhouse were sold, for this you will find inside the ancient scales, the old price lists hanging on the walls, the butcher's counters and the white tiles on the wall. Open all day for breakfast with homemade biscuits and pies, lunch and dinner with traditional Roman dishes, grilled meat, fish or pizzas and aperitifs and after dinner cocktails. I strongly recommend the "Antipasto di Casa Angelina" (fried anchovies, eggplant parmigiana, meatballs with tomato sauce, focaccia, Panzanella, ricotta...).
