Sehenswürdigkeiten

We highly recommend some visits to Cahuita Nationalpark. All the way you find a 15 km path through the jungle and next to the most beautiful caribbean beaches. You will be able to see a lot of wild life like monkeys, sloths, snakes, raccoons and many more. If you choose to walk with a local guide you will even see more. Bring your beachwear to take a bath while exploring the park. The entrance fee on the town entrance is a voluntary donation. If you enter on the Puerto Vargas side the fee is 10 USD. It is possible to hike through the park by yourself, however if you want to have the best experience we do recommend to go with a guide. You will be able to see a lot more wildlife.

If you are looking for some natural adventure, we recommend a trip to the Volio Waterfall in Bribri. It's a beautiful 15 m waterfall hidden in the rainforest within the Bribri Indian Reservation. After a nice hike through the rain forest you can enjoy a bath in the wonderful water. Volio waterfall is located at the end of Calle La Unión. Halfway the road changes from asphalt to dirt road once you enter the rainforest. The parking spot of Volio waterfall is well signed and here you will meet someone who can eventually bring you to the waterfall.

Déplacements

Rental car or public transport?

During our travels we had both experiences. It is easy, cheap and an authentic experience to travel through Costa Rica by public transportation. However if you want to be flexibel and explore other areas we do recommend to hire a rental car. It is more comfortable and quite easy to drive in Costa Rica.
Déplacements

Bus stops close to Casa Coralita

If you travel by bus you will arrive at Cahuitas main bus stop. From there it's about a 10 minutes walk to Casa Coralita. With luggage we do recommend to take a taxi. Next to the entrance of our vacation home there is also the bus stop (cementerio / ciudad perdida) from there it's a very close walk to the house (70 meters). Ask the driver if he will stop there.

Drinking Water

Casa Coralita is connected to the municipal water supply and in addition, we also do have our own well. You can use the tap water to make coffee, cook or brush your teeth without worries. To drink we provide a water dispenser. By the way it is safe to have drinks with ice in restaurant and bars.

Peak season

During christmas and eastern holidays it's peak season in Cahuita. Also a lot of Costa Rican tourists visit the beautiful beaches of our area with their families. As the town can be very busy during these times, we recommend you to make reservations for tours or restaurant visits in advance.
Que faut-il apporter?

Sunscreen and repellent

A a good sunscreen and repellent are very important. The sun in the Caribbean is very strong and can affect you more than at home, especially when you are in the water. Furthermore, because of the clime you will meet mosquitos in Cahuita, depending on the weather conditions. There are mosquito nets installed on the small windows of our house. Furthermore we provide repellents for the rooms and your skin to protect you as much as posible. Nevertheless we highly recommend the repellent "Off" that you find in every supermarket. If you got bitten, the farmacy sells good creams for it.

Cahuita Feria

For a real authentic experience we recommend a visit to the Feria Cahuita, a small sunday market. You will find it on the main road in the center next to the salon communal. There you can buy fresh fruits and veggies and try local food, accompanied by local music.

Medical help

If you are in need of medical help there are the following options: In the town center of Cahuita yourwill find 2 farmacies. There always will be a doctor available if you need any advice or specific medicin. The public clinic is located in Hone Creek, about 10 minutes drive from Cahuita. And there is also a private Clinic (Clínica de Especialidades Médicas San Gabriel) which is very recommendable with branches in Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. There you can also book Covid PCR and Antigene Tests.

Your safety

Cahuita is a safe area to travel, nevertheless you should of course exercise a certain consideration: - Do not leave your car with luggage on not guarded parkings - Do not leave any personal belongings unattended - Do not wear large, expensive jewelry - Always lock your car and of course also the house - Avoid to walk alone in the dark (the streets are poorly lit) - Activate the electrial security fence of the house at nights
