Restaurants

The Hen & Chicken is a quirky old village pub that is just five minutes walk from The Drum Room. It has a very comprehensive English menu and an outstanding Indian Menu. It is a 'free house' so there is a large range of beers and lagers on draught. At weekends, it is probably best to book in advance.

Sightseeing

Knepp Castle is a vast country estate that is extremely popular with walkers and those that love the great outdoors. It has an extensive re-wilding project and the scenery and various signposted walks are spectacular. I believe you can also book escorted wildlife safaris.

Horsham has grown up around the Carfax. To the south of the Carfax is the Causeway. This street consists of houses erected in the 17th, 18th, and early 19th century and is lined with ancient London Plane trees. The Horsham Museum is at the north end opposite to the recently developed former headquarters of the R.S.P.C.A.. At the south end of the Causeway is the Church of England parish church of St. Mary: Norman in origin, rebuilt in the 13th century and restored in 1864–65 by the Gothic revival architect S.S. Teulon.[4] The area immediately to the south of the parish church is known as Normandy. It was formerly an area of artisans cottages and an ancient well. Fifty metres south is the River Arun. On the northern bank is Prewett's Mill, and on the south side is the town's cricket field. A short walk along the banks of the Arun in a south-easterly direction is Chesworth Farm, an area of open public access. To the north of the Carfax is a park, Horsham Park, the remnant of what was formerly the Hurst Park Estate. The park has football pitches, a wildlife pond and tennis courts. Leisure facilities, including a swimming complex and a gymnastic centre, have been built on land around the park. To the east along Brighton Road is Iron Bridge named after the railway bridge that carries the railway from London Victoria to Littlehampton. The area consists of mainly Victorian and Edwardian houses to the north of Brighton Road, whilst to the south, there are areas of inter- and post-war housing. This area is known as the East Side.

Southwater

Southwater is a large village and civil parish in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England, with a population of roughly 10,000. It is administered within Horsham District Council and West Sussex County Council. HISTORY One of the oldest buildings in the parish is Great House Farmhouse, a listed building at Grade II* built up from a late medieval structure in the Tudor period just west of the town.[3] Whilst mixed agriculture provided a lucrative industry for centuries, much of the population of Southwater originated from the workforce of the brick industry which thrived in the clay-pits until the 1980s. Following the closure of the brickworks, there was a project implemented to transform the area into a country park, which is now a major family attraction in the district. COMMUNITY In 2006 the centre of Southwater Village was renewed at a cost of £25 million.[citation needed] Southwater has three public houses: the Hen and Chicken; the Tipsy Fox; and the Lintot which opened soon after the building of Lintot Square – the name is a reference to Barnaby Bernard Lintot (1675–1736), an English publisher born in Southwater. Southwater Country Park is a 70-acre site with three lakes and numerous access paths located close to the centre of the village.[5] The Park contains a visitor centre with information displays, and also a café, a skate park, and a children's adventure playground, and Southwater Water Sports Centre with facilities for sailing and canoeing. The Country Park and the Southwater Area Community Centre both have direct access to the Downs Link footpath/cycleway. CHURCH Holy Innocents Church is the Anglican parish church of Southwater, a village in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. Built in 1849,[1] the church has a cruciform footprint. Inside there are many stained glass windows, donated to the church by the Piper family[2] and the Old Blues of Christ's Hospital School. The church grounds include the church, its graveyards, a house, a church room and a Scout and Guide hut.

Live Music

The Rec Rooms was born of two things, the love of live entertainment and a love of Horsham. As residents of Horsham we had walked past the building many a time and seen there was so much more that could be done with it for our community. Since taking The Rec on in 2018 we have worked tirelessly to create a venue that Horsham could be proud of. We are by no means anywhere near the finished product but we can honestly say that nothing makes us prouder than when you come to a gig and say 'Wow this place is amazing' or 'We had such an incredible time, we will definitely be back'. We aim to cater to every music fan whether you love rock, jazz, pop, country, indie and anything in between we guarantee we will have something for you.
