Right on our doorstep, this lovely forest was planted in 1919 as part of an effort to restore woodlands after World War One. It’s mainly Douglas Firs and also has pretty streams and various flora and fauna.
Owned by the Forestry Commission, the circular walk takes you past a magnificent Douglas Fir, planted in 1840, as well as the remains of an early medieval motte and bailey castle.

The Tarka trail is a series of footpaths and cycle paths around North and on, that follow the route of the fictional character Tarka The Otter. It covers 180 miles in total and you can pick up the route just here in Eggesford.

Take a trip of about 45 minutes out to the Woolacombe Bay. Voted the Sunday Times Beach of The Year in 2021. This 3 mile stretch of golden sand is renowned for its cleanliness, water quality and facilities. It’s simple stunning at any time of year.
