This is my favorite cocktail bar in town. The bartenders make truly excellent drinks and this place has the very best burgers! It can be busy on weekends, but you'll usually be able to snag a seat outside near the Basque handball court. Not up for a burger? Try the truffle oil popcorn!

Mother Road is a kid and dog friendly brewery with a large patio and good beer. They have wine available as well, and there is a food truck that makes the most delicious tater tots.

Dark Sky is a local brewery that has recently expanded. It has a large patio that's great for warmer weather. If you have kiddos, though, this isn't your spot because they don't allow minors (even though they do serve food).

Oeno is a newer wine bar in Flagstaff, a sister concept of the folks who run Shift. They have a good selection of wine and they change their menu often to offer glasses of wine from around the world.

Taking a drive through Oak Creek Canyon is a great way to spend the afternoon. You can find some hikes and spots to swim in the canyon, but I recommend getting there early because trailheads and swimming holes can get quite busy. It's a popular place when the weather's warm--for good reason!

Walk a couple of blocks north and rent bikes from Absolute Bikes if you want to see some of the nearby trails without driving. The folks who work there will be happy to give you some tips on some mountain bike trails that are just blocks away (Thorpe Park) and they can also direct you to the Urban Trail system, which takes you throughout the city. Have kiddos with you? They even rent out bike trailers!

This is a great little roastery off Butler Avenue--close to downtown, but you're probably going to want to take your car if you're walking around. The coffee is great and they make innovative lattes with alternative milk options.

Biff's is a no-frills classic Flagstaff breakfast spot. They serve up delicious bagels with their own homemade cream cheese blends and of course, coffee. It's a grab-and-go sort of place, so if you're looking to sit down, you might save this for the day you're on your way out of town. They also have a gluten free bagel!

Shops

Winter Sun is locally owned and has been keeping Flagstaff residents healthy with herbal remedies, teas, salves, and natural beauty products since the 1970s. They also have a wonderful selection of jewelry from local artists, many of them Navajo and Hopi. Phyllis, the owner, works closely with local artists and sources the art in the shop directly. They may only allow a few shoppers in the store at a time, however, so you might need to poke your head in first and see if they're at capacity. Don't worry though--the wait is absolutely worth it and this is THE PLACE to get your Flagstaff gifts and treasures!

I absolutely love this place and cannot go in without picking up at least one book. It's a wonderful locally-owned bookshop that you can count on to have new releases and classics, as well as little gifts like socks, cards, posters, journals, and even tea towels. They even host events, for example, readings with local authors. It's worth walking in and asking about their event schedule.
