Eleven years ago, Founder & Head Chef Dylan Carnes was living in Port Angeles, Washington, when an idea came to her during a hike: create a vegan bakery with all of the deliciousness and none of the sin. From there, Sinfull Bakery, Houston’s first vegan bakery was born! It was rough going at the start, but it didn’t take long for business to take off. When Dylan moved back to Houston, she had a DBA, two full journals of recipes, a few dollars in her pocket, the last amount of money on her food-stamp card, and two parents willing to let their daughter use their kitchen 24 hours nonstop. That’s exactly what she did. Within six months of moving back to Houston, Sinfull Bakery products were being produced in a commercial bakery and sold at Whole Foods Market. 10 years later, Sinfull Bakery now offers a wide menu of assorted quality baked goods made from scratch, with all natural, mostly organic ingredients, free of artificial flavoring and preservatives. Our exceptional menu constantly has our guests asking us “Is this vegan?” & we love it: Yes, everything offered is 100% vegan. You can find us in your favorite coffee shops, juice bars, farmers markets, specialty stores, and restaurants! Live outside of Houston and want to reach our goods? Shop our “GET IT SHIPPED” page for shipping options.

Founded and ran by cultural vegans Oricha and Nemanja Plavsic back in 2017 Wisdom was created with the purpose of providing delicious meals and desserts that are completely vegan. Our team has worked incredibly hard at “veganizing” traditional recipes such as burgers, pasta, cupcakes, and more! Fast forward to now, Wisdom has not only expanded our menu, but also our team and our location! Wisdom is a judgment-free zone that welcomes all. Even if you’re not plant-based, we promise that you’ll find something here that you “can’t believe is vegan”! Feel free to check out our gallery, and social media, or just come on in and see the magic for yourself!

Culinary artist and confectioner Kenneth D. Brooks Jr. serves as founder and CEO of Masterpiece Desserts. He was born into a traveling military family in San Bernardino, California, and raised between Houston, Texas, and Washington District of Columbia. Growing up, Kenneth always dreamed of becoming a doctor. As a result, he participated in many activities such as playing on the football team, singing in the church, and school choirs to stay active and work towards that dream. Making sure he stayed involved, Kenneth worked part-time jobs throughout his high school career to prepare for college. After graduating high school, he began his career as a Neuro Diagnostic Technician, and four years into his career, he experienced a life-changing event that he was unprepared for. On March 3, 2014, Kenneth experienced cardiac arrest lasting over four minutes, leaving him in a three-day coma. With doctors uncertain if he would wake up, they proclaim this event would bring extreme trauma and leave Kenneth with severe brain damage. However, on March 6, 2014, he woke up with the gift of a vision and a skill. The vision was Masterpiece Desserts, and the gift is baking the "World's Most Delicious Cheesecakes" known to man, woman, and child. After that life-changing event, Kenneth continued working in the field of neurology full-time until December 30, 2017. At that point, it had become clear that it was time to take the business to the next level and begin using his gifts to touch others. Masterpiece Desserts is on its way to unseen heights because of Kenneth's excellent customer care and genuine love for serving others.

Kaboom Books is a general purpose, used bookstore at the eastern edge of Woodland Heights immediately above Downtown Houston. For 30+ years we had a succession of bookshops in New Orleans, in the back of the French Quarter. Now, in Houston, our purpose remains the same: providing a bookstore based on complexity and an inventory of ideas, which acts as a sounding board for social discourse within the confines of Houston’s hundreds of neighborhoods. If you are tired of looking for books by sitting in your underwear, hunched over your keyboard, watching type trickle down the screen, come by and have a browse. Put something more on before you come though; as Lord Buckley said, “You can’t do anything without your pants on.”
