Beautiful and quiet area. Nice to stroll and enjoy the nature and view to the sea. Fort Beekenburg is built as defense against the English and French. It has been built from Dutch stones and withheld attacks from enemies and pirates. Free to enter.

The Caracas Baai (meaning Beach) is located just 10 minutes walk away from the Hacienda (Go left, right and then right again on the Jan Thiel road and walk 5 minutes, then go to the beach). Lots of local people, a nice restaurant and a beautiful view. Most people come here to swim or just sit in the water.

The Caracas Baai (meaning Beach) is located just 10 minutes walk away from the Hacienda (Go left, right and then right again on the Jan Thiel road and walk 5 minutes, then go to the beach). Lots of local people, a nice restaurant and a beautiful view. Most people come here to swim or just sit in the water.
The Salt Lake of Jan Thiel is a beautiful and relaxing area with a lot of untouched nature. Lots of birds, including flamingos and prey birds. From the hacienda, you have a good view over the area. The entrance is 200 metres to the left, then left and after 100 metres, the entrance is next to the stones. Hiking and running are perfect. On the right side of the lake, Parke Dunki starts. This is a parc with lots of interesting explanation signs for children (a little bit to the north). Early in the morning and in the afternoon, it is very quiet.

Beautiful place and nice trip. Go early to avoid too much sun 🌞 and don’t forget to visit the museum at the bottom of the 🏔 mountain. The walk tot the top is approximately three hours.

Walk to the Saltpans behind the Hacienda
Go left to the end of the road (200 metres), go left (there is only one house there, Kaja Kuki Indian), then go into the bushes and keep left. You decline a few minutes and then you go uphill a few minutes. You will end up to a road with two cacti, take good notion of it. You can go left, there is a nice trail ending up to Papagayo, appr. 5 kilometers. When you go right to the Saltpans, there are different nice trails. You can make a big round around the Saltpans (appr. 2 hours) or go to Parki Den Dunki.
