Magere Brug, also known as the ‘Skinny Bridge’ is a beautiful old lifting bridge which crosses the river Amstel, and is just a 10 minute stroll away. At night it is illuminated by hundreds of small lights and is probably the most beautiful and romantic bridge in Amsterdam, though there are many, many others ! Passport2Amsterdam say : “One of the reasons this bridge is viewed as the most romantic in Amsterdam is the legend that a kiss on the bridge, or a kiss taken whilst travelling under the bridge in a boat means the couple will stay in love forever. The skinny bridge is a prime location for proposals, so don’t be surprised if you see someone down on one knee in the evening under the lights.”
