There's a few Kanela's around town,... the closest being close by on Wells. Amazing breakfast/brunch place. The wait can be long but worth it! Grab an almond croissant at La Fournette across the street while you wait. It's the best French Bakery in the World, seriously.

Chicago has great museums like the museum of science and industry, filed museum, many art museums, etc.
Grant park and then navy pier are popular scenic spots to check out downtown.
And if you are here on a summer weekend you can almost always find a great street festival or nearby farmers market to check out!
The beach is also close by and a nice place to relax, rent a paddle-board or wave-runner, swim, play volleyball, grab a drink, etc.
