Neighborhoods

Referred to as Mayberry by neighborhood locals, Algiers Point is quiet, safe, and full of New Orleans charm. This quaint little neighborhood is the 2nd oldest neighborhood in New Orleans, only months newer than the French Quarter, and has everything you need (bars, cafes, pizza, market, parks, library, shops). Rich in history and packed full of 19th century architecture, it's a lovely area to wander and explore. The Mississippi River is only blocks away with a wonderful, paved levee that is great for walks, watching cruise ships come and go, the best view of downtown New Orleans, and the most amazing sunsets. As you’re walking around or relaxing on the porch, notice how many people say hello...Southern hospitality is real! Upon check-in, we provide a complimentary self-guided walking tour of Algiers Point, with plenty of history, architecture, and stories of the past.

Built in the 1770s during the Spanish colonial period, it is one of the oldest surviving structures in New Orleans. Pirate Jean Lafitte owned a business here in the early 19th century. Lafitte and his brother used the structure to plot illegal seizures and the sale of contraband. It is purported to be one of the more haunted venues in the French Quarter. The name Blacksmith Shop may not be coincidental. Lafitte's associates operated a smithy here during the days of reliance upon horses, who had to be shod. Jean's older brother Pierre Lafitte was a blacksmith, and their associate Renato Beluche once owned this building
