Sightseeing

The Cottage is situated on the East Branch of the Pine River. The Pine River is known throughout Michigan as a paddle sports paradise and the coldest & fastest flowing river in the lower peninsula with an average temperature of 69 degrees. We do not provide Kayaks at this time. We highly recommend booking with an outfitter if you do not have your own canoe's or kayaks. Pine River Paddlesports in Wellston is only 25 minutes from the cabin and comes highly recommended.
Historic canal connects the two lakes and runs directly through the park. Trails are groomed for cross-country skiing. The visitor center open year-round displays hunting & fishing exhibits. Metal detecting area.

The 92-mile trail connects Comstock Park (in the Grand Rapids area) to Cadillac and follows the rail bed of the old Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. It’s the state’s second-longest rail-trail. Year round activates for Hiking, biking and snowmobiling. To reach the Cadillac trailhead: Take U.S. 131 north to the M-115 exit and go northwest for a half-mile. Take North 41 Road 1 mile north to North 44 Road. Go west on North 44 Road approximately a half-mile.

Only 15 minutes away is the Silver Creek Pathway. Silver Creek Pathway has been a gradual work in progress, an evolving trail that is now considered well worth the wait by visitors to this corner of Lake County. What began as a short path for campers in the 1970s is now a 4-mile loop that extends between two state forest campgrounds and follows both sides of the scenic Pine River. The key to the trail’s development was the installation of a pair of bridges that allow hikers and others to cross the river and return to the trailhead.
