Leisure/Swimming Pool Surrounded by water on three sides and with strong breezes from the Irish Sea, Wirral is a haven for "Windcatchers" and there is no more perfect place than West Kirby Marine Lake. Set on the very tip of the Peninsula with stunning views of the Welsh Hills and the Dee Estuary, this man-made saltwater lake is fast becoming a top tourist destination. It is 52 acres in size, 5 foot deep and totally enclosed, making it an exceptionally safe facility. The Lake is home to the Wirral Sailing School, which offers courses in sailing, windsurfing and canoeing, making it the ideal place to indulge your adventurous side. The less energetic can also enjoy West Kirby’s Marine Lake by taking a leisurely stroll around the border of the lake or along the stretch of beach from West Kirby to Red Rocks at Hoylake. Water sports fans are reminded to wear appropriate footwear whilst using the marine lake due to the presence of weaver fish with sharp poisonous barbs Private craft can be admitted by purchase of daily lake licence, annual or seasonal licence.

Best beaches

Hoylake, meols and West Kirby have a beautiful coastline with views of Liverpool and Wales. However, there some little gems along the stretch of beach which make for a wonderful Spot for a day’s sunbathing, swim and barbecue.
A beautiful part of Hoylake beach located down Stanley road. Popular for games, barbecues and swimming. A collection of small islands are located there to walk to and swim when the tide is in. Wonderful views of Hilbre Island and Wales adorn this beautiful stretch of beach.

Sporting venues

HOYLAKE HAS THE HONOUR OF HOSTING THE 151st OPEN IN 2023 AND THE LIMITED TEE TIMES THAT ARE AVAILBLE FOR THAT YEAR ARE NOW ON SALE ONLINE. IF PLAYING HOYLAKE BEFORE JUNE 16th 2023, PLEASE BE MINDFUL WHEN BOOKING THAT YOU MAY ENCOUNTER COURSE PROTECTION MEASURES, SUCH AS THE USE OF MATS IN CERTAIN AREAS, THE USE OF FORWARD TEES AND OTHER MEASURES. The Royal Liverpool Golf Club links at Hoylake can be beautiful, uplifting, challenging, and even daunting when the wind really blows and the summer rough is deep. The course was created to be a demanding test of golf and remains so, and lies at the very heart of the history and development of the game in Great Britain. Royal Liverpool is the oldest of all the English seaside Clubs with the exception of Westward Ho! in Devon, which was established just a few years earlier. Despite its at first glance flat and benign appearance, Hoylake makes the trickiest demands of a player’s shot selection, distance control and accuracy. The Club celebrated its 150th birthday in 2019, a year which also saw the Walker Cup return to Hoylake, having made its last appearance in 1983. The Match was a wonderful addition to the celebrations of Royal Liverpool’s proud history and important role in the development of the amateur game.
