Favourite local. Traditional cosy English pub, friendly staff, good Sunday lunches and variety of beers - real ales and craft. House cat, board games and fireplace in winter a bonus.

a walk to Canary Wharf

Can walk to Canary Wharf / the Thames river within 40 minutes of the flat. Takes you through Mile End park, along the canal, through the docks in Limehouse and coming out onto the river with great views of the city and Wharf, and a pleasant walk along the way. Restaurants and bars there too. Recommend 'The Grapes' pub nearby, very cute old pub directly on the river bank (also owned by actor sir Ian McKellan - aka Gandalf!)

Startling view of city & a nice short walk

for a small stroll in the area, walk down Antill Road to Mile End Park and turn left (south) you'll pass the art pavilion and nice pond with swans and ducks and area to sit. Beyond that is a small hill you can walk up to get a view of the area and a surprising view of the contrasting modern high rises of Canary Wharf. Nice place to see the sunset with changing lights. Mile End station is very close plus co-op shop is under the bridge if you happen to need groceries at the same time!
