Sightseeing

On the southern side of town, Weeks State Park is a great little jaunt from the base parking lot, or in the summer you can drive all the way to the lookout tower and historic summer home of former Senator Weeks. Inside you’ll learn about Senator Weeks’ legacy as a MA US Senator who was responsible for the National Forest Service + Preservation efforts and the Migratory Bird Act. A pretty cool house to tour as well as excellent 180-degree views of the mountains, lookouts and short, easy trails around the property.

City/town information

This little town packs a punch with a historic, long-running community theater, artisan shops, a bookstore, great restaurants, and our favorite outdoorsy/New England consignment shop, Lonesome Woods. There are a golf course and some hiking trails nearby as well. Bethlehem has a little something for everyone and is right next door to Littleton so make an evening or an entire day of it.

Littleton is the commercial and population center for Coos County and the north country in NH and VT. You’ll find major retailers like Lowes, Home Depot, TJ Maxx, and Wal-Mart right off I-93. However, the heartbeat of the city is on Main Street where there are dozens of local retailers, consignment, restaurants, and hotels. Check out the country’s longest candy counter at Chutters. Littleton also features gorgeous walking paths along the Ammonsuc river and is one of the trail heads to get onto the Ammonoosuc Rail Trail.

A quirky town that is best known for Dog Mountain, a dog memorial, and a massive haven for any (well-behaved) dog to run free in their parks, ponds, and chapel. There are many restaurants all around town to visit and check out. There’s also a great, rustic Red Barn brewing down a gorgeous rural drive in nearby Danville that we recommend.

Jefferson isn’t really an incorporated town anymore However, this region boasts several great hiking and wildlife refuge areas, including the trailhead to the Presidential Rail Trail, and the Pondicherry refugee area with many trails. Water Wheel restaurant and gift shop is also great place to get food.
