The Bruntsfield Links extends off the Meadows. Both are great places for picnics, BBQ's, relaxing in the sun, or playing a game of short-hole golf. They are popular places to walk and jog and have several good play parks for children. Take your own golf clubs and play for free or hire equipment from the Golf Tavern on the edge of the links.

This is an iconic sight above the east end of Princes Street, with interesting monuments to explore and fantastic views of the city. It's a relatively quiet spot a short walk away from the busy centre of the city. There's the Old Observatory, Nelson's monument, and the ill-fated National Monument (an unfinished replica of the Parthenon in Athens!). Also on Calton Hill are the old Royal High School, masterpiece of Georgian architecture, and the monument to Robert Burns.
