The Cove is great for families with kids! They have great pirate decor, food for the whole family, an arcade room, and hard served ice cream shop. After lunch and ice cream, walk down the street to Riverside Park for some fun in the water.

Blodgett's Creamery has wonderful coffee, sandwiches and ice cream. They have a great location downtown, and is a wonderful stop for an afternoon pick me up, or morning cup o'joe.

Flathead Lake State Park
31453 S Finley Point RdThe hike into Swartz Lake is 0.6 miles, and it is a very easy hike, with a wonderful flat meadow, picnic area, and lake at the end. We hike with a 2 and 3 year old, and they walked the whole way back on their own.

The short hike into the Kerr Dam overlook is well worth the view at the end. In spring and early summer when all the gates to the dam are open, the view is stunning.

Riverside Park is a great location for families with small children. There is a playground, dock, and steps directly into the lake. Close to the Cove Deli and other restaurants, it is a great location to spend an afternoon.

Sacajawea park is a great location for an afternoon picnic. Although there is no playground for kids, there is a tree-filled grass hill next to the lake that is perfect for an afternoon relaxing.

For a longer day hike, Mud Lake is the perfect get a way. It takes 3-4 hours to hike up to the lake, depending on experience level. You will need a tribal permit (around $15) to hike on tribal land. For information on the tribal permit, or directions to get to the trailhead, call Kelsey (406) 381-8848.

The National Bison Range is home to a wide array of wildlife, from Bison and Antelope to rattlesnakes. In early mornings or late evening, you will have the best chance of seeing these animals. The loop through the park will take you about an hour.

The Hiawatha Bike Trail is a 15 mile long trail through the bitterroot mountains, through 10 train tunnels and over 7 tresses. You can rent bikes or bring your own. The entire trail is downhill, and a shuttle bus will bring you back to your car. You must have a light on your bike or a headlamp, as one tunnel is nearly 2 miles long.

This is a bit of a drive for just a day; however, it is well worth it. At the mine, you can purchase a bucket of gravel dug directly from the mine, and pan for sapphires. You get to keep any that you find. We have always come away with 5-10 small sapphires.
